There is a free lance journalist by the name of Duncan Jenkins who is an extremely reliable source of all things LFC. I do recommend that people read his stuff or follow him on Twitter. There are reports stating that LFC are stalling over the compensation package. Duncan explains that this won't scupper the deal and it should be completed soon. There were other reports suggesting that Rodgers will have more control over the club and that he persuaded FSG that he doesn't need any directors. Duncan explains that FSG are firmly committed to the new management structure and they will be bringing in a director. The only external contenders for the role are LVG and Txiki. Additional LFC have agreed compensation for Rodgers and 3 of his staff. They are understood to be Colin Pascoe (right hand man, Chris Davies (Highly rated match analyst) and Glen Driscoll (Conditioning coach).
The negotiations with Swansea are exactly that NEGOTIATIONS. I doubt that there is any real stalling just getting the fine details sorted (like the ability of Rodgers to sign Swansea players). Even if the 2 sides cannot come to an agreement that is not the end of the matter as it would then go to arbitration. However LFC will not make an official announcement until these talks are completed. Like Jenkins, I do not see FSG giving Rodgers complete control as it is at variance with their other management changes. However, I have no idea who they are proposing to bring in. The media was full of LVG but I'll wait and see.
I was very pro Van Gaal just by looking at his credentials but then I read more stories about his big ego and wants to take control of everything which I think would hinder Rodgers's vision for the club. The rumours on Txiki have certainly died down a bit but I can't help think he may be better suited for the role?

I think Van Gaal's ego will only be an issue if him and Rogers do not share a vision. But I dont think they would be appointed if they didnt.
From what I can gather neither Rodgers nor Martinez were happy about not having control. Why on earth they behaved like most other Premier League managers wasn't clear, though Kenny was always very supportive of Comolli. One thing's for certain: next time I get invited for interview I'm gonna tell them to go **** themselves so I'll get the job. But FSG have their plan, their M.O., which was made clear when they arrived - young up-and-coming manager and a DoF signing young players who'd been missed by all the experts or had slightly iffy records, mixed with a couple of older stars. Bobby Valentine is 62. He is the new manager they chose for the Red Sox. Nine years older than Terry Francona, the previous manager. So much for the M.O. No evidence of the first point. Whelan and Martinez will say something like this to save face but since Rodgers has taken the job then it suggests otherwise. Rodgers didn't tell us to go **** ourselves, he just wanted to know interest was real and he wasn't just making up the numbers. As for managers FSG have never said their managers NEED to be young, and in the case of the Red Sox, after their collapse last season under a manager who allowed them to police themselves, FSG have clearly responded with someone who will whip them into shape a bit. That's my understanding anyway. Why are some people so keen for FSG to fail? Fans>Fanatics>Support the owners/club.
I find that the majority of these fans are the old guard who are used to the more traditional methods that saw LFC go through decades of dominance. They believe that these methods are tried and trusted and are easily transferrable to the modern era. And there are the Football Manager Era fans, who want to splash cash left right centre on unrealistic targets and think everything is a quick fix by getting in a new manager or 5 different players.
Wonder if this spells the end of Clarke's role at the club...I actually think Clarke and Rodgers would have worked well together.
According to Swansea City website Pascoe is indeed the assistant manager. Others refer to him as 'first team coach'. Neil Jones from the Liverpool Echo: "I understand #LFC will also be taking three key members of Swansea's backroom staff. They are Colin Pascoe, Chris Davies and Glen Driscoll." Apparently Driscoll is a conditioning expert and Davies is a match analyst. Don't see why Steve Clarke cannot still be a part of the set-up given that Rodgers says he is still in regular contact with him, FSG apparently refused Clarke's resignation and FSG wish to spread the workload more widely.
