Midfielder could miss Southampton clash due to head injury. Lee Cattermole could miss Saturday’s trip to Southampton due to a head injury. The blood-soaked midfielder was forced off just 16 minutes after coming on following a collision with Jordan Mutch, with manager Sam Allardyce confirming that the wound, plus a bout of concussion, could rule him out of action. Jan Kirchhoff was also replaced during the second period due to fatigue with John O’Shea coming off in the first 45, and speaking to safc.com post-match Allardyce provided an update on trio. “Jan was saying he’s fatigued,” said Allardyce. “I think that’s everything catching up on him having not played many games for Bayern Munich and I think that’s the pace of the Premier League taking it out on him – games on a Saturday and then a Tuesday are a bit much for him at the minute. “He was a big miss for us when he came off so hopefully we can get him recovered and back in time for Saturday.” He continued: “John has a tight calf but Younes has a huge amount of experience and he’s back for us, and we’ve also got Wes Brown so there’s plenty of experience in that area. “Lee looks like he might miss Saturday with concussion as well as the cut.”
Not excusing Kirchoff, but I read an interesting article the other day. Football is the most demanding sport in the world in terms of endurance - with the exception of long distance runners 11km is the average distance covered by top level footballers in a game, Rugby 4.5km and American football not even 2km (and thats over a longer period of time). Tennis is nearly 5km and field hockey 9km.
And most footballers train at Aerobic levels and they train mainly for endurance. It's pathetic. They sprint in bursts and have moments of rest, consistently for 45 minutes x 2 with a short break, where muscles will begin to seize up. The only conditioning for that is Anaerobic or VO2 max, high intensity interval training, but the soft bastards can't do it because they're too busy crying and chatting **** about Nando's.
as i said, wasnt excusing Kirchoff, just found it interesting that football is the most demanding. Was surprised.
8.5km for Rugby league players, in saying that their on the ball for the whole game tackling sprinting etc. Nothing beats that for endurance imo
The most physically demanding sport by calories burned is boxing and squash. Contrary to popular belief, sex isn't that great for fat burning, it burns roughly 50 calories per hour if you go like the clappers, and bearing in mind that most sex in my experience lasts no longer than a few minutes... that's not very many calories!
You'd think mma would burn more then boxing. Interesting, mind you LVG burnt more then any1 falling flat on his ass
Physically boxing is much more demanding than MMA, during competition. The legs take an absolute pounding in boxing from the first til the last second, UFC fights can be spent grappling on the canvas for large parts.
Hahaha they burn way more calories than boxing mate, them were the days, it was like trying to wake up a dead worm.
