From Liverpools website message to saints fans from Rickie Lambert; What can I say...? Southampton has been my life for the past five years, in which we have achieved all of our dreams and more. First I have to thank Markus Liebherr for saving Southampton then Alan Pardew for bringing me to the club. Thank you to all the staff involved in making me the player I am today. Without your knowledge and commitment I would not be here right now at a World Cup with England. Thank you to all the players, past and present, who I have had nothing but good times and success with driven by our club captain, Kelvin Davis. I love every last one of you. Thank you to the managers I have worked with - Alan, Nigel and Mauricio - and their teams for helping me and Southampton step up and adapt to every challenge that has come our way the past five years. When I grew up there was only one club I loved. I can honestly say now I have two clubs which will always be in my heart and that is thanks to the Saints fans. The people who support this club have been nothing short of amazing towards me and, when I look back in years to come, it will be the relationship I had with the fans here which will stand out the most. Southampton have allowed me to realise a lifelong ambition by joining Liverpool FC and taking my family home. The five-year plan when I arrived was to get this club from League 1 to the top half of the Premier League. Against all the odds we have achieved that. Shame he never tipped his cap towards PT and BRFC too but I suppose your only as good as your last game and/or club and unfortunately we don't figure so we'll take the cash and thank you Rickie for the times you set the mem alight and helped us to have the most successful period in our history. We will be rooting for you Rickie as we watch the world cup and now gives me more of a reason to watch Liverpool matches, the team I followed from afar as a kid but Rovers were and always be my No1 love, my wife and Liverpool the slutty mistress hidden from view.
gassyade he said something similar when he left us about us being in his heart and was very thankful towards our club in letting to go to saints to have a chance of furthering his career. i know its been 5 years since he left but i think he is a great guy and deserves everything he can get. he is very humble and he hasnt let it go to his head.
And he's made us a **** load of money just when we need it, simply by being a Liverpool fan. Cheers Rickie
Just been reading on the Saints not606 and it seems he was pissed at not getting the chance in Jan of moving to WHU which would have been for big money for player and club. With all the unrest at St Mary's they used the Liverpool connection to get something for him after a decent finish position. Bet on the quiet Lambert is glad he had to wait.
yeah i bet he is glad. i am too. i can watch him in the champions league now now his mate lallana has apparently put in a transfer request. seems like saints wont have any english players left soon with shaw being linked away as well.
