All this international chat got me thinking...taking off your Saints cap - does Lallana have the potential to play for England?

He's what 23 now ? His mate Surman is doing well in the prem but not England class. I would like to think Lallana is a better player.

I personally would rather have Lallana than Downing but I really like Adam Johnson, Oxo and some of the other youngsters coming through which could leave Lallana as another nearly man.

    What are your thoughts?

Downing is quality player, however I'm not sure Lallana (or anybody) will get an England call up while they're with Saints

Not on current form, If he picks up and then shows he can do a job in the prem then yes. I too love adam johnson though...

Can see it happening. the only way he will get into the england team is if we get promoted and he storms the premiership. then he might get a go in a friendly.

Love the man and he will be able to play for us in the PL, but not England quality at moment.

Lallana on top form then maybe but with the calibre of players in his position will mean it will difficult to get a look in. But if Jay boothroyd can get a call up then I'm sure lala has still got a chance!!

My question was aimed at the future. There are some shocking players that have played for England.

Jay Bothroyd got a call up when he was in the Championship. He's a one season wonder!

I think Lallana has all the attributes to play in the premiership. Unfortunately I've not been able to get to many games over last few years so I can't comment on his progression as a footballer but whenever I see him play he sticks out like a sore thumb!

I think if we get into the prem and we progress, he might just have the ability to shine!

Pontentially three of our current midfield MIGHT go on to gain full international honours. I have said many times on here that the team (especially the midfield) has yet to fulfil it's full potential. Lallana, Cork and Schneiderlin have already been capped at U-21 level and are young enough to improve sufficiently to be considered as full internationals IMO. One thing is certain, they will be the mainstay of Saints' midfield for the next 5 years at least, hopefully in the Premier League.

    He does but not yet.

He needs to recapture the form he has had over the last two years and be in the Prem too.

There are some people the haven't even made the England squad yet despite playing in the Prem for years!

i thought johnson played more on the right, downing and milner i never really liked, so if we get promoted and lallana can put a few PL (and international) class defenders on thier arse then why not. Maybe can make the GB team for the olympics

If the likes of Cahill and Zamora can be picked for England whilst at Bolton and Fulham, it is hard to see why Saints players for that standard would be overlooked if promoted

I fully expect Shaw to be in the England squad in the next 4 years, and it's not outside the realm of possibility that Sinclair, Stephens, Ward-Prowse, Lallana and Lambert could be considered if they perform well enough in the Premier League.

Downing quality? He is massively overrated imo,for me he is at best a championship player...
The two Adam's,Johnson and Lallana are both two really good players.Johnson, for some reason doesn't play for England as much as he should.
They are both very similar players.

Never seen Downing play a good game for England. Cannot understand how he keeps getting called up. On the left Milner does a job but isn't the player in that position to make it his own.

If We do get to the Prem and if Lallana plays well I think he could be lucky that the LW position is the only one that he could probably get. Not this year though, not next and may well take him playing at top form for a Saints team that is also getting good results.

I think the one thing on his side that in 3-4 years he may be playing in a team that has a number of England call ups within it (meaning once we have 4 or 5 of our academy in the first team) and that may sway the England manager into utilising their familiarity, just like some of Man U/Liverpool players who were called up not for being in the best 11 English players but because they worked well with their team mates.

Lots of Ifs and Buts but it is a possibility

Johnson is a good player but very up and down, similar to Walcott.

    Downing's pretty good...

Johnson doesn't play for England as much as he should because he doesn't play in the league as much as he should.
