"Krul made his Newcastle debut in the UEFA Cup game on 2 November 2006, away to Palermo. His debut was hailed by critics as he displayed his shot-stopping abilities, saving efforts from Giuseppe Biava and David Di Michele and recording a clean sheet in the process" remember it well thanks Tim
Well put. I was in a Manchester hospital that night and thought the nurse had upper my Painkiller driver. Fab display. If I saw Tim out I'd buy him a pint and thank him. Not many players would get that from me.
He is absolutely brilliant on his day. Unfortunately he didn't go on to have as many days as we first hoped.
Why did he fall out of place again? He said something to Defoe and it caused a bit of a stir, I know it annoyed eveyone but him losing his place for that is a little odd. I always felt he was a good keeper and can keep his starting 11 place. He just sorta disappeared off planet, can someone explain?
The Defoe thing was we were losing to Sunderland and he was laughing and joking with Defoe at HT or FT as they were coming off the pitch. Some fans made a big deal out of it but I don't think most hold a grudge. Non-story for me. As far as I can recall, he never lost his place for it. I think he had a bad injury for most of the season before last and was injured when Rafa arrived. He went on loan last season in Holland and it just looks like Rafa doesn't fancy him. I think it could be because Rafa prefers a keeper who can do a bit of sweeping and has better distribution. Nothing has changed this season and off he goes out on loan again for the last year of his contract. I'm sure they would have liked to sell him but I guess there were no takers possibly due to wages.
He'd been **** for a couple of years before that, basically since the season after we finished 5th. He didn't lose his place from that I don't think. Yeah I hold a grudge for the old Defoe laugh. We can make out he's been a loyal servant, but wouldn't you be on those wages! I just remember we were playing gash, had zero fight, had asses like coloccini totally losing interest and then the one guy I thought was Mr. Newcastle is ****ing laughing whilst we're getting beat by the Mackems. It embodied every issue I had with that team at the time. They literally did not care about our club. If he'd have been in any Roy Keane/Shearer team he'd have been searching for what's left of his head for the second half. Find me any other Geordie, adopted or not, laughing at that point in time Its like I had some mental breakdown I never recovered from, because everytime I see his face it winds me up. Give me cheick tiote screaming how **** we are, whilst watching on TV, any day of the week.
Wonder strike from defoe just before half time then ****in giggling with him walking doon the tunnel...... He was never the same after his shoulder injury.
I regarded him as our best keeper. It's just an opinion. Just wasn't given a chance by Rafa. Sad to see him go - and to a bottom half rival, it's a risk.
I think he had to go as he hasn't managed to progress in the areas he needed to in order to become a keeper for the modern era. Still respect him as a pro and someone who was fully committed to the club
