For me, I would play 4-4-2 away from home with a view to going 3-5-2 if we boss the game. At home you have to play 3-5-2 and press the opposition from the start.

Olifinjana will be back in for the Peterboro game. Then we go again against what looks like the poorest team in the championship from what ive seen of them.

Correct. Far too many on here Hissy Fitting after just one game. Knee jerk reactions are the curse of the 21st century football supporter. In days gone by yesterday would just have been dismissed as one of those days.

Losing is always frustraing and so is being leggy and not on your game. It happens. City got 3 points from 3 hard away games. We are still 4th ffs.

Paul Mckenna to me will have to do some big time crawling around Steve Bruce after his Doncaster mistake.

Can you immagine what fans would have said IF Steve Bruce had change formation and players and then lost ? Ya dammed if ya do and ya dammed if ya dont. Hindsight is such a wonderful thing. Time to move onto the next game.imo

I don't think he's gone missing that much this season at all, and he really looks like he wants to get involved in the defending, he just isn't very good at it.

I tend to agree that for all Koren's attacking mastery he just isn't a good tackler, he doesn't seem to be an agressive type anyway, plus he needs to get up more closely to the opponent when they're on the ball and press them. But it's not in his make-up. If Koren was a more forceful, energetic type with Dudgeon's tackling ability he'd be playing PL week in week out.

I'd have gone with this against Leicester:

    ------------------ Amos --------------------
    Rosenior - Faye - Chester - Dudgeon
    --------- Olofinjana - McKenna ---------
    ----Elmo---------Koren---------Aluko----
    -----------------Simpson-------------------

Playing with three at the back away, when one of those three is Bruce Jnr, terrifies me

I knew there'd be a good reason for him not being in attendance.

I imagine McKenna was left out as a reminder that you can't be getting yourself sent off stupidly and expect to play every week.

That or Brucey wanted 3 defenders on the bench including one he has no intention of using and only one midfielder.

Certainly don't want to come across as critical of Robbie Koren - at his best he is a class act.

He didn't however put in any sort of challenge (for whatever reason) against that french midflelder at the byeline and allowed him to cross the ball to the far stick with ease - a number of Lester playeers were then queueing up to head it home leaving Amos stranded.

Pearson had his players clearly fired up for this one and we lacked energy possibly after a difficult away match at TWS or because we went into the game thinking we could roll them over easily.

Chester on the BBC website clearly thought that we didn't work hard enough and was annoyed at the final whistle.

Lessons to be learned by all.

Sorry, but this was not in hindsight. I have stated on here that this would have been my preference on this board before this game. It is also what I thought the manager would have employed too. He suprised me that he didnt. I genuinely thought he would go for a 4-4-2 away from home and not go for such an attacking option away. I thought that Rosie would have come in for away matches. So, no, not in hindsight.

What like the 4-4-2 that got us the victory at Leeds 5 days earlier?

Point taken West Hull, but it clearly didnt work on Sunday because they pressured us, played out very wide and split our back 3 by pulling them wide and then crossing the ball. I think he has to alternate things somewhat so that it keeps opposing managers guessing as to what formation we will play. We shouldnt becaome a one trick pont as we will deffo get found out if we do.

Nahh. It isn't as easy as knowing what formation we will play and just stopping us. Most teams will know exactly how the opposition are likely line up ahead of the game but it's about players more than tactics. If NP had **** players we would have won regardless of what he knew about us and if our players kept the ball better we'd have had a much better chance than we did. The big problem was that we kept giving them the ball back, that's not tactical that's just crap. And that's exactly what we were on the day.

That's a fault of the opposite wing back. When they get past Dudgeon (for example) the LCB is obviously going to have to come across and act as a LB. At that point it's the responsibility of the other CBs and the RWB to drop in and form a standard flat back four to eliminate those gaps, with the LWB looking to pick up a midfield runner rather than trying to get back into position immediately. Although as people are insisting on it being a 352 and not a 532 maybe I should be saying it's the fault of the central midfielders (Quinn or Evans as Koren plays in the hole) as when the LCB goes to LB to cover a winger one of them should be dropping in as the additional CB in the flat four.
