Has anyone seen the latest news on knighthoods, and how it is supposedly a surprise that the likes of David Beckham and Andy Murray have not been awarded the (again) supposed honor.

I am not sure how honorable it can be considered anymore, when the whole thing is so so diluted, and basically given to celebrities who essentially have done their job for a moderate amount of time.

There are some sports personalities who quite rightly deserve it to some extent, but it seems we just hand them out to anyone these days if the likes of David Beckham are being nominated. I like DB, but he didn't really do anything to deserve a his last honor in 2003, he certainly hasn't done anything noticeable since then that warrants it.

Andy Murray is even more farcical, he wins one Wimbledon and a Gold Medal in a sport where his only real competition is two other players. The whole thing seems utterly pointless now.

Last night I saw Waiting for Godot with my wife in New York, starring Sir Ian McKellan and Sir Patrick Stewart. Not particularly a fan of either, but they were so so incredible to watch, and I am not a theatre goer at all. You can see why they are considered Knights of the Realm. You start lumping rubbish like DB and AM into the pot, it really does become a meaningless title.

Congratulations to Karen Brady though. A woman who has parted her legs all the way to the top, been under investigation more than Harry Redknapp, and is pretty much the epitome of what is wrong in the corporate world. Its nice to see she is being considered to represent women in entrepreneurship. Does the female race a huge disservice!

Andy Murray is 26- He would have ben the youngest sportsman ever and the youngest in modern times- I was reading into this earlier- Most sportsmen have got a knighthood some time after they retired. Ian Botham, Bobby Charlton for two. Bobby Moore never received a knighthood and he was the captain that won the world cup!

It also seems to me that a fair amount of charity work is required. Botham seems to have got his as much for the charity work as for services to cricket.

Maybe Murray will get one in due course, but at 26, the idea of a Sir Andy Murray defending his Wimbledon title would only add additional pressure on him.

If we are looking for sports people that deserve one more, Mo Farah has done more but again, even at 30, would say he was too young.

Don't start me on 'Honours', especially the ones given to Civil Servants in Whitehall just for doing a job of work.

Beckham and Lady Posh getting a Knighthood really would be the end.

Mo Farah ??? WHY - his gong was a gold medal - wtf does he deserve another gong totally unrelated.

The 90year old lady who appeared on TV this morning puts the system and clowns above to shame.
Her award was for raising money for a Hospital for over 60 years.
90 years old and still baking and selling cakes for her hospital.
    What a wonderful lady.

I'd scrap the honours list altogether Order of the British "Empire" etc.what a joke. What Fekkin Empire?
Time for some sort of citizens award for those selfless people that do good works for no reward. Get rid of the corporate backslapping and self congratulation of those earning vast amounts just making a living like the rest of us. Should be reward enough being able to work at a job you enjoy, God knows the majority of people don't.

and whilst we are at it let's abolish the Royalty as well.
Rant over and Happy New Year to you all.

For every celebrity that get an MBE etc there are 100 people who get them for well deserved things (like the lady redprintt mentions)

Let's not let our countries obsession with celebrity stop us from rewarding "unsung heroes"

I have no problem with the people like Redprint suggested getting them, real people, worthy of being noted for EXTENSIVE service to their country. But we can't give a Knighthood to everyone who does some charity work for an hour a month infront of the media for publicity purposes,

Anyone who brings out and autobiography in their twenties, does not deserve any kind of knighthood in my opinion.

    Beckham ? Ha !!

Giving that horrible twat anything other than a good kicking really would be an insult. Unless of course you can get knighted for services to self publicity and being the most overhyped footballer ever.

Many thanks to ROD for opening up my opportunity to welcome those well deserving eastern Europeans to the British land of plenty. Having seen them working (joke) in southern France last spring gives me the strength of knowledge that they will add something to the economy of the land but regrettably in the deficit column.

Having been away from the sceptred isle for almost 40 years makes me ask "who the hell is responsible for this insane joke?" when people who have never contributed a penny to the system are allowed access to whatever they feel they are entitled to without fear of contradiction, except from some lunatic from the EU Human Rights Court. I hear it all winter long from my English friends in the Canary Islands and if half of what they feel was put in to action then possibly there could be a better outcome.

Psst - want to buy some lucky heather sir? Sorry but that's just the way I feel about what has been allowed to happen to my birthright.
