I haven't posted for a long time, was just looking to get some info from those in the know (as the content of not606 seems to be the most thought provoking gills board I've come across). If this has already been covered in a previous thread I apologise. - I've noticed over the past couple of months that a lot of the Gills kit now lacks the Vandanel logo and is instead tagged by the old Gills Leisure logo, it's not all the kit as PT still has Vandanel tracksuits. Is this a money saving ploy by Scally to reproduce kits from a couple of seasons ago or are we moving back to Gills Leisure kits? I hated the old GL kits, although they are not as bad as the Uhlsport tents that we were sold which all seemed designed for the sole use of Delroy Facey. UTG.
I don't know exactly but I believe seeing something on twitter a while ago saying that Vandanel pulled out of our deal with them mid-season for some reason or another. Im not 100% on this but Im sure some other helpful soul will clarify! I think Peter Taylor still wears the Vanadnel stuff simply because when he got the job he was probably given all of his kit then rather than the players who probably get it as and when meaning he still has the old brand. This again may be wrong but I cant imagine Peter Taylor being the kind of guy to keep swapping his kit all the time. On to the GL kits I'm personally all for them, I grew up with them so maybe Im biased in that regard but I would rather have a completely unique design than simply inheriting some old team wear design that a big brand had lying around and would rather give you that than design a new one (not trying to bash them but Southend had Uniteds old chevron style kit as recently as last season I believe?!). Each to their own but if we had GL kits next year I wouldn't be too fussed seeing as I have never been a huge fan of their kits apart from the one we had the year we beat swindon 5-0 on opening day.
I raised this question recently too as for when the boys wear the pink away kit, it is still the one manufactured by Vandanel as opposed to the gfc made kit. I personally quite liked the Vandanel kits as they were never a standard template used by many other teams (see the nike goalkeeping kit and you know what I mean). They especially went above and beyond last season with the design of the centenary kits so I'm not too sure why we've stopped wearing them. I can only assume that it was cheaper for us to have an old design and Vandanel weren't too happy about selling the kits for a lower price for an old design to the club, as they knew they would make much smaller profit margins due to fans already having the kit. That is my own assumption and it is not fact based so don't hold me to it!
