As I said, it's not that big a deal. And I'm fairly sure anyone who works at Murdochland has skin thicker than a rhinos! No matter the result, He'll not have to do one on Saturday!
Its a little bit tetchy in all honesty, but I actually like his interviews! The people criticising must be all just people who like watching the same old structured interviews full of the same old soundbites and cliches. The fact that he is not conforming to the supposed 'correct' way of answering ridiculous loaded questions is one of the many things I admire about Kenny. The reporters are just full of agenda's and Kenny knows it, I can see how perhaps it doesn't reflect well on Liverpool to the stupid people who are living a groundhog day existence but quite frankly who gives a **** about those people, long may it continue!
King Kenny has been losing it with consistant regularity lately. He basically clearly thinks the press is a joke and he runs the show. I'm surprised the league hasn't stepped in and reprimanded him yet. They're obliged to give pre and post match interviews after all.
How about SAF when Kenny's daughter asked which goalkeeper he would play next after Lindergardt had a belter, only to be told "You always look for a reaction, stupid questions all the time!" Not jusy KD eh!
Newcastle fan in peace here I think he comes across tetchy and almost always does, even when he's giving a nice interview there's often an edge to him. The reason why its notable is because he strikes as not being a bad bloke at all but someone who sometimes wants to pick a fight with his interviewer or is waiting for the interviewer to ask him something which gives him a reason to storm off. Near the end does he say "We're talking about it on Thursday, you're not invited so you wont be there Andy" or words to that effect. I think he does but not certain, if that is his point then its a really petty comment. Yes choose which reporters you invite by all means but don't go out of your way to rub the media up the wrong way. I look at Pardew at Newcastle and there was so much mud thrown at him in the first few months (don't you think its strange you were appointed? The fans here really loved Hughton? etc) questioning his ability to manage. For every interview he just came out smiling his Colgate smile and answered the predictable questions well (because they are predictable, you can think in 10 seconds exactly what you're going to be asked) and by the end of last season us geordies respected him for that. We liked Hughton because he represented the club in a nice manner, Pardew has mostly carried that on. Whatever you think of the media, KD is the primary representative of your club and I think he seems to want to be disliked by neutrals. Fair enough, why should he care i guess? But as a fan i'd care.
ps. Yes Fergie is a twat in interviews, even Man Utd fans would agree. But everyone respects him because of what he's achieved, no other manager in the game at the moment (or perhaps ever) compares. KD has won some big things in his managerial career but he hasn't earned the right to be a twat in the way Fergie has - if that makes sense.
Inside Kenny was probably fuming. The very last thing he wanted last night was his 2nd goalkeeper sent off and the team to have to exert so much energy - especially when the match started off so well for us. He did try and control the interview by stating that he wasn't going to talk about refereeing decisions but the interviewer made it clear from his questions and tone that he was always going to bring the interview back to that topic. He did try and end the interview (and I liked his Ferguson type barb about "if you are invited to the press conference...") He did not lose his temper and all in all I think he handled himself well in the circumstances. But then I don't believe that reporters/interviewers have carte blanche to pressurise any manager into saying something merely for a story.
There's an easy answer to all of this - let's just not give ANY interviews to anyone excet the Echo and the Beeb. NONE AT ALL! And fook our 'reputation' and what professional Liverpool haters such as Sky, Samuel, Barnes, Lawton and the rest of the terds on Sunday Supplement think. And the so-called 'neutrals' who infest this and other forums with their faux 'concern' and transparantly bogus hogwash about having once admired Liverpool, but now feel 'compelled' to register their cod opinions. Fook them all. There's @ 50m of us - we only need each other and the rest don't count. Carry on Kenny - they only hate you because you were RIGHT about Hillsborough, and they know it.
What other fans think about the interview: http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/136550-Kenny-Dalglish
If you don't care what 'neutrals' think about Liverpool then fair enough, there's no reason why you should. I know i care what people think about Newcastle, not as much as i care about Newcastle doing well but I liked our reputation as entertainers and i like getting credit where its due, etc. The siege mentality may work better for Kenny and Liverpool ( "Fook them all" as you say ) but i don't really see that its needed, again up to you. I think there is a media obsession with Liverpool, Man Utd and the London clubs probably because the media is based in London and those are the only clubs they support! But i don't think its an agenda by liverpool haters, there are a handful and there are some who tend to push the positives and underplay the negatives (Like Hansen for instance). Don't see the need to drag Hillsborough into this to be honest I think we'd all agree that Kelvin McKenzie is a c**t and many other things. As for faux concern, I live in Aigburth and work in Liverpool and have done for many years. Every day i work alongside many Liverpool fans and we have banter about Liverpool, Newcastle and many other things. My son, bit young at the moment, is almost certainly going to be a Liverpool fan as his mothers side of the family are and we live here. If you don't want to know what fans of other clubs think about the issues of Liverpool then i'd suggest you go to one of the many forums for Liverpool fans solely.
I'm really in two minds here. The press in the main are at best looking to invent 'non stories' and give everything an angle they can exploit for the coming weeks to sell newspapers and advertising online & TV. At worse they are vile, corrupt twisted organisations who have systematically destroyed reputations of individuals, clubs and cities. I have no love for the press of this country. At all. No sir. But at the same time, the Suarez debarcle proved that the truth is not the currency traded with the media. It is all about the spin, the angle, the perception not reality is king. We either need to batten down the hatches and pay lip service to the press a la Man Utd or we need to play their pathetic little games and smile through their loaded questions. I would assume however that we need the press to further our global commercial presence. So what do we do? Roll out a smiling nodding dog figurehead or leave KD to be himself, to treat the media with the respect they deserve but potentially damaging the club in the process. I really don't know the answer here, but something has to change IMHO.
haslam, I respect your opinion and applaud the way that you have put it. However, I believe that what you are seeing here is a response to posts from other fans that do not have the same intent as you. For a long time, both on 606 and here, it has been a favoured pre-occupation for WUMers to visit the Liverpool board and often ply their trade in the most vile way. At times it has become so bad that many regular posters have either left the board or seriously considered it. Therefore, many of us now will adopt a siege mentality. Even you have to accept that there are few visiting posters who take the care and attention with their posts as you have.
Oh yeah there are tons of shameless wummers. We got alot on the Newcastle board once we hit a slump earlier in the season and now we get them laughing at our delusions of CL football. Not as many as you guys get though and its easier to laugh them off when things are going well. For what its worth i think Dalglish has already adopted the seige mentality and should follow it up by simply refusing to speak to any journalists he doesn't like. Most people would respect him for it, there's no love lost for the journo's in this country and if the alternative is interviews like last night in my opinion he'd be better off in the dressing room with the players.
Come on people, being a good footballer or a good manager doesn't necessarily make you a good face for television. It would be great if our manager was an urbane, consummate manipulator of journalists but he's paid to manage. Unfortunately the rules require that he give post match interviews when these things are not his forte. In any other field, a spin doctor is wheeled out to handle the media but we can't do that. So, do clubs pick managers to run the team or to give nice friendly interviews? It would be great if they could do both but it's not always the case. Imagine if Utd had been more interested in Fergie's interview technique than his managerial skills. And I'm sorry, Haslam you're a good poster, but nobody earns the "right" to be a twat. It's just that Fergie's value as a manager makes the occasional embarrassment caused by his twattishness a worthwhile price to pay.
I think Murdoch owns the company that owns Sky, or there's an arrangement to that effect. News International owns the Sun and Times and BSkyB owns/runs Sky. Murdoch holds controlling shares in both NI and BSkyB I believe, though there has been measures mooted to break this up a touch and I think he was blocked in trying to buy out BSkyB entirely last year. Anyway, he's a bugger and britain and media in general would be better off with him and a few others gone and a semblance of a free press. Wont happen until conservatives go though, so far up his backside.
Murdoch's News Corporation own about 40% controlling interest in BSkyB (Sky). It was formed from a merger of Sky Television and British Satellite Broadcasting (about 20 years ago I think). Both Sky tv and News Corp are Murdoch's babies. He uses his media power to try and influence politics throughout the world. He's a complete amoral ****. Allegedly.
Do you really think this is the reason why Baz honestly ? Do you not just think that as Saint pointed out it's just that he's not that brilliant when under pressure with the media ? All this 'pro United propaganda from Sky is what is making Kenny be rude to them' is just making you look silly pal
Suppose that's a point, the contract says talk to them; it doesn't say talk to them nicely. I would actually hope that this is is the reason then I can happily watch any other sky interview not thinking he looks at breaking point just can't stand the corporation who unfortunately pay for the league to run.
