Will we or won't we buy this January?

Kenny is not giving much away.

    http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/latest-news/kd-on-january-transfer-activity

The boss is not anticipating there to be much transfer activity at Anfield this month, though there is the opportunity for the Reds to bring in new faces should they wish to do so.

Dalglish told reporters at Melwood: "We've got an option to be active if we want to be active, but we said at the outset that we'd be quiet.

"It's work in progress for us. We'll just keep doing what we're doing, and the boys will keep working as hard as they can, and we'll see where we go.

"If we needed somebody to bolster up, we could do it - but I said right at the outset, we don't.

"We're not really chasing after anybody that we want to bring in in January. We've been happy with what they (the players) have done since August."

He added: "I don't think it is unusual when we said at the start we would not be very busy. I think it's unusual when people try to invent things, get it horribly wrong and then ask us to justify it.

"We said right at the outset, if anything there will be very little (transfer activity). It's a wee bit disrespectful to us after trying to be honest and saying there might not be much, that we get accused of not being active."

From that I'd say it's a no. Hope he's bluffing because he's blind if he thinks we don't need a striker. The Gerrard honeymoon will wear off soon and we'll be left with the reality that Carroll will be the one supposed to give us goals.

wouldn't expect kenny to say anything else - still could be a busy transfer window but kenny will wait until a deal is finalised before we hear about it - he's not going to do anything to get the press excited as they will start printing even more nonsense than they have already

if he says he is going to spend and then doesn't, the press will say there is no money available to him or the owners don't trust him - he hasn't said he wont spend but i think it's a case of "watch this space"

I didn't expect him to say we'd make signings but neither did I expect a long speech about how he's happy with what we've got, money's there but not looking to buy etc etc. His job must be very secure for him to say that because there's no way in hell we will get fourth without a signing so I'm not sure what he's playing at.

If he doesn't buy anyone maybe it is a case of "love is blind"?

We'll buy another player. We're not going to tell the world that we are unlike Mr. Redknapp who might as well publish his diary online. What else do you expect from Kenny other than to play down the January transfer market? Seriously, people read into what managers say way too much. Unless they're a complete idiot (Hi, Harry), they play down everything, don't commit to anything and don't make open promises or broadcast targets. It's the PR world we live in.

In the past Kenny has played it down, and we've then made transfers. Here he didn't just play it down, he actually gave reasons for why we don't need to buy anyone. It would undermine the entire team now if after saying "I'm happy with what we've got" he then went and bought someone new! We won't sign anyone this window, and if we do it'll be a token 7million signing of some 18 year old Championship player.

It would undermine the whole team to say that he's not happy with what we've got, or that we need to add more depth, or anything to that nature. I figure he gave reasons this time round because unlike summer, there's a whole load more pressure on him this january in terms of our lackings (goal scoring). By giving reasons and excuses such as luck or poor ref decisions, he takes pressure off our squad, doesn't undermine them and basically tells reporters to **** off interfering with our club and to stop asking questions about our failing strike force.

He could have simply said "I'm not here to discuss transfer policy". Bam. done. He could have then signed someone and said "it's always good to have other options blah blah" so as not to destroy Carroll's little remaining confidence.

    He could.

Regardless, I firmly believe we'll buy one attacking player this window, doubtful on more than that though. Strong rumours that we're in for Coutinho of Inter with a Loan-to-buy deal. Not the striker we crave, but a creative player non-the-less.

If he's better than Carroll then great. I'd love to be picky over strikers but even if we signed Bent or someone I'd leap with joy because it'd only be an improvement on the blunt team we have at the moment. Here was me hoping we'd have a sneaky bid for Pato or Tevez.

They're way above and beyond our wage structure, unfortunately. No one earns more than Gerrard here and never will until he retires

I'd take Defoe and Bent right now in a heartbeat. Someone to give us something different, a bit of pace, poaching, the random wonder strike. Something
