Really hope we manage to keep kedwell always been solid and he seams to love the club will be gutted if he leaves
wasn't particularly fussed either way, maybe we are going to play him at centre half from now on as he is not a good enough to be a regular starter up front in league 1 (and before anybody talks about his goal scoring record please take out the penalties first)
Don't get the whole penalties thing, they are a huge part of the game & something he is very good at. Somebody has to take them & other than maybe Bayo there is nobody else i would feel very confident about taking a pen in a pressure situation. It's not like that is the only thing he offers to the team either. COYG
2 years? For a 30 year old striker who has only played one year at this level and didn't set it alight? Vinney is right he's done well to get that! Can't see him being a regular next year if we are trying to push forward, if he wasn't a fan and local boy I doubt many people will have been as keen to see him sign, but I will support him and want him to do well just seems a bit of a cushy deal considering he's been on a very good wage for the last two years
Goals per minutes played Kedwell was more effective this season than Cody, the messiah to many Gills fans it seems. Despite a stuttering season many fans see Cody as player of the season, and cite the excuse that he needs a big target man to play alongside i.e. Bayo. With Bayo unable to play 90 minutes and likely to on the way out, Taylor obviously see Kedwell in that role. Injury has hampered the chance of us seeing the Keds/Cody combination so we can't judge its effectiveness
People say about that Kedwell only scores penalties. Let me put this to you, we have gained far more many penalties when Kedwell has been playing than when he hasn't. So surely that implies that we play more attacking football when he's in the side than when he's not to win said penalties? Someone still has score the penalty and that's not a talent we see very often being English. People also fail to forget that until his injury, he was our best player up until January bar Nelson. Out the side for a couple of months and seems to be the worst player on the roster. Would you rather have someone like Pigott playing for us?
Knew I'd see BSG in the Kedwell corner. I wasn't fussed, as most of you know Kedwell isn't my cup of tea however to prevent a mass exodus he's worth keeping, better the devil you know sometimes. Particularly given it must be on lower wages than his previous deal. I expect to see another striker coming in then as it would seem inevitable that Bayo will leave.
Really pleased Kedwell has signed a new deal.We must remember Kedwell was our best player until he got injured.Kedwell scores a lot of penaltys, but we get far less when he is not playing. Also you know you will get 100% passion and running for 90 minutes when he plays, and a good defender late on from set pieces.
Oh no don't tell me I am becoming predictable I do like Kedwell's work rate; I understand the lack of goals for open play but I do think he links the midfield and forwards better than anyone else with have
Absolutely delighted Keds and Nelson sewn up. Hess & Young Dack on board. I think PT (or PS?) is doing brilliantly so far. Long may it continue.
Wow. I was saying Kedwell wasn't my cup of tea last summer on twitter and I nearly got killed by you lot. Glad to see some of you coming to your senses. Although I dont dislike kedders. He just isn't the best and doesbt score enough open play goals for a dstriker. On the other hand bayo is that solid target man who creates goals out of nothing. I would of gave bayo a 2 yr deal and released kedders.
My thoughts align with you Mike, as i said with Bayo inevitably leaving i think perhaps PS and PT were fearful of a fans backlash, which they would have had if Nelson went, and from some corners if Kedwell did as well. Getting those 2 signed mitigates the responses when Bayo goes.
I don't see that, a good manager and/or chairman would put the development of the club before upsetting the fans, and lets be onest Scally is never been afriad to rock the boat with the fans. If Bayo is let go I think it will be due the fitness issues, he seems to be only able to play 45 minutes and we can't aford to carry a player who cis only available for half a season.
Sorry mate but you've contradicted yourself there. You're saying that Kedwell doesn't score enough goals when Bayo scored exactly the same amount in more games played. Kedwell also has had the best goal to minutes ratio as BSG has already stated and the fact that we win more penalties when he's playing shows that we play more attacking football and are more of a threat. He was our top scorer for the last two seasons and could have easily been this year if he hadn't have been injured. There is more than one type of striker in football, and yeah ok he's not and out goalscorer but he is an old fashioned English centre forward.
It's for continuity reasons as well BSG, do we really want effectively 6 or 7 first teamers leaving, if Bayo is to leave then keep Kedwell then we only have to find one more striker. For me Bayo would be the priority to keep however if he isn't going to stay then at least keep Kedwell. Do you honestly not think it's about appeasing the fans next season for Taylor? He hasn't enjoyed a close relationship with most of the fans this season and would like to prove himself without negativity setting in from the outset. I'd be interested to hear any details of Kedwells deal, the more i think about it the more surprised i am by the 2 year deal, similar to when Bareett was given one during last season, and now we're stuck with him. I can only assume as i previously mentioned it's on reduced terms as it seems strange for him to have earned a 2 year deal. I've got to challenge this bizarre point (again) about us being more likely to get penalties when Kedwell plays, it's ridiculous, penalties are down to luck and Kedwell only won 1 enalty last season, against Crawley away, the rest were pretty much Cody and Dack. So how can Kedwell be so good at forcing penalties when he only wins 1?! It's down to circumstance.
I am sorry but I don't get this we win more penalties with Kedwell so we are playing more attacking football theory, in 2012/13 Tottenham won no penalties with Bale in the side and this season without him they won 6/7, I dont think that anyone would say that they were a more attacking side without Bale. As for Kedwell you cannot deny his passion or commitment which are both admirable, and its great that he is a supporter, but that should not be allowed to disguise that he is probably not good enough to take us to the next level. In my 25 years of going to the Gills, in my opinion he might just about make it into the top 20 strikers that have played for us in that time.
Not comparing them style wise but he has a very similar games to goals ratio as Jackson & we would all be jumping for joy if Simeon came back, so along with Cody i think its a forward partnership that a lot of league one clubs would love to have. Add Bayo or one other if he goes and i think we will be just fine banging the goals in. Its the other end of the pitch we should be worried about
