For the second game running that pitch was a disgrace. The ball was skipping up all over the place, I watched one ball played along the floor run 15 yards and then kick up 2 foot off the surface. I feel sorry for Barmby and the lads trying to play classy football 'on the deck', on that pitch. As for the argument it's not due to the egg chasers! What a load of bollocks! The pitch was pefect for the Crawley game, then FC played on it and it was torn to pieces.
and look at the two results id take a 3-0 win on a **** pitch then a 0-1 loss on a perfect pitch any day!
For 90 minutes we did play classy football; and we won. Stop complaining we're 5th in the table with a chance to go 3rd, Crawley's over and done with and today was a brilliant performance. Let's keep scoring on horrible pitches.
"It is the worst pitch we have played on all season, but it was the same for both teams," McInnes said. "I feel for Hull playing on that pitch as they are a good footballing team and it doesn't do them any favours." The club needs to get on top of this asap otherwise it will cost us vital points.
It's the same every year, it obviously doesn't help having rugby on it, but there isn't any grass on the pitch anywhere on it, it's not like it's just the middle channel or penalty areas where the 2 sports use it. Is it a design issue with the West Stand being so high or is it bad groundkeeping?
the pitch was a mess for the Crawley game ! especially down the wings - i remember making such a comment before the game even started , there were big channels of mud on the west side of the pitch
It has to be bad ground keeping I think. Reason being, you look at Old Trafford/Emirates they have pitches that look like carpet. Ok they have more money to spend on up keep but my point is they have larger grounds which prevent the sun/elements helping the pitch along yet have pristine pitches, As do most premier league and championship clubs. It surprises me after the pitch at Boothferry Park was award-winning if I remember correctly.
If we can get use to the poor pitch.....it could work out as a secret weapon that gives us a big advantage at home ... Maybe !
Barmby was saying on Humberside that the stadium really needs some kind of lamps. Something to do with the way the sun passes overhead and the position of the west stand limits the sunlight. Makes sense really, when you think about it. We're probably at the worst time of year for the lack of light affecting the pitch. Don't think they'll be cheap though.
Did you hear Swanny's comment about that? My old man was telling me when I got in he'd said something about how we should track down Phil Brown to sort it out. The West Stand definitely affects it. Sitting in the East Stand about 8 rows up near the half way line, even in October/March the sun tends to follow the top of the roof around during the game. This time of year it can't get any direct sunlight on the pitch. Couple that with 2 teams playing on it now we're in the worst of the wet weather and not being able to have the kind of pitches the top clubs can it's always going to look crap at this time of year.
When the stadium was built, they where bigging up the synthetic/grass hybrid pitch. Not really worked out has it.
When the stadium was built we were a Division 3 side, maybe if we were still going to some of those vegetable plots every other week the KC wouldn't seem so bad? We've got used now to going to better pitches in the PL, and equally good pitches that are one use in this division. EDIT: When I say equally good, I mean the design, they're then better pitches because of being single use.
The rugby clearly doesn't help as having a game every weekend rather than every other weekend is going to have an affect. But i was sure we had those lamps already am i the only one who sees them before most games outside the west stand? I admit i probably get there earlier than most to the games but there still there around about quarter to one most games i just assumed they where lamps for the pitch.
Have to say as someone who watches City matches on TV or Tigersplayer, the pitch does look shocking at this time of year - hard to judge the playing quality of the surface but the colour often looks as though there's no grass at all in places!! Is it a synthetic/grass surface? - I thought they were supposed to be the best thing since sliced bread.
Watching the FLS last night, I thought it looked like a number of clubs also had pitch problems. I think it's something that is difficult to avoid when the weather alters quite dramatically from reasonably mild weather, to an icy cold snap.
Its not been great since that international RL game on it. You can still see the huge logo in the middle of the pitch. Looks tacky.
Barmby is creating a good passing team so the better the pitch the better for us. The way it is now gives hoof ball teams an advantage.
The pitch has a number of problems lack of direct sunlight is probably the biggest. Ideally the ground would have been built with the lowest, longest stand , (what is now the east stand) at the southern side and the highest at the north. This would give maximum sunlight and maximum shelter. As it is we have a ground with maximum shadow. It probably would not have fitted in the available space and we cant ask for it to be turned around now. Modern lighting systems are very good but expensive. Despite that the constabulary seem to find certain err.....entrepeneurial spirits growing quite succesfuly in their lofts outhouses etc with the aid of lighting systems we really do need sunshine. Just giving the pitch a rest and a chance to grow woud help. Sharing the ground with anyone is just twice as much wear and tear with less recovery time
