If the sky article is to believed and let's just assume for one moment that it is; that we get Turner and Snodgrass.

My view is that Barnett will be sold and Davies brought in, which would leave just the RB/LB position to be filled by Naughton perhaps on loan again?

    Flexibility then with:

    RB - Martin, Whittaker, Naughton

CB - Davies, Turner, Bennett, Ayala, Ward

    LB - Tierney, (Naughton), Lappin

Now tell me that isn't an exciting prospect!

Plus our midfield would have Butterfield and Snodgrass in addition to our current contingent who are all absolutely fine as was evidenced last season.

Strikers - provided Vaughan can stay fit he looks a great prospect, so we have 4 including Holt, Morison and Jackson.

My view is that our midfield is good enough to warrant one striker up top and 5 man midfield, either 3 & 2 or 4 & 1 (off striker).

No doubt a few will say where do some of the funds come from, well selling Barnett and Chris Martin should yield 2m I would have thought? Crofts as well would be a logical candidate since he would be last in the midfield pecking line, another million at least.

Taking a 15m budget; Butterfield (2m), Whittaker (free), Snodgrass (IF :) 3.5m, Turner 2m, Davies 3.5m and Naughton (permanent or loan) 7m to spare for...assuming sales of 3m.

And of course should our budget be smaller then we would have spent 11m and signed 2 on loan. Plus I would like to get Guidetti on loan from City, in addition to Naughton.

    What do you all think?

I remember plenty of people unreasonably saying our midfield wasn't up to it last season which is ridiculous!

Any of the promoted teams can say what they want but they would all bite off their hands for:

    Pilkington
    E.Bennett
    Howson
    Fox
    Hoolahan

They all performed fantastically well and proved everybody wrong (all bar Wes came from League 1 too)

We are lucky to be spoilt for choice in midfield and goalkeepers unlike some in this division where any injury is a nightmare selection issue for the manager.

Cant see Davies coming in now i think Turner was a back up for him not coming?
Did see on sky sports web site that Hudders were after Vaughan for £1m ? Not sure we'd be looking to sell him now he appairs fit?

Cannot see us taking a £1.5m loss on him no chance, we have stood by with his injury last season and now it is time for him to repay us. Vaughan is our 2nd/3rd choice striker IMO, be mad to let him go.

Just don't see how Barnett fits in our plans now, fair enough if Martin is used as cover then we have Turner, Bennett, Ayala, Martin and Ward. But would require a left back and a right back still.

agree with chippy - turner will have been 'plan b' if davies was too expensive, which invariably it appears he was. russell martin will be used as cover across defence. i agree we need to add, if possible, a further full back, preferably one who can play both sides like naughton.

No point in selling Vaughan, as I said on another thread - if he can stay mostly fit, then we don't need to buy another striker and use the money we save towards strenghtening the defence. Would prefer Vaughan to Rhodes - there's no guarantee rhodes could make the step up to the Prem (prepared to eat my words) - look at Beckford/Wickham!!!!
