SUNDERLAND expect to clinch the signings of Stephane Sessegnon and Sulley Muntari before the weekend – as Steve Bruce calls time on his striker hunt.

After making “significant progress” over the last 24 hours Bruce is expected to make a long overdue transfer breakthrough before Saturday – although stop-gap solutions Ricardo Fuller and Jay Bothroyd appear to have been discounted as the Sunderland boss invests his faith in Asamoah Gyan.

First through the door is likely to be Gyan’s Ghana team-mate Muntari – with Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti admitting to his club’s official website last night that the midfielder was set to depart.

And although Muntari trained in Milan yesterday, he was quoted in reports in his homeland as saying a deal which would take him to Wearside on loan would be clinched in the next 24 hours.

He is likely to be followed by Paris Saint Germain winger Sessegnon, with Sunderland sources now confident that a £4million deal can be brokered before the weekend.

Sessegnon – who returned to training earlier in the week after a ‘strike’ – is currently laid low with a infection, but that is not likely to block a move that Sunderland have been working on for the past fortnight.

Bringing that duo to the Stadium of Light will be a relief for Bruce, who has all but written off the chances of recruiting a striker to replace Darren Bent.

I like the ywe are conducting bussiness at the moment, by not paying over the odds for a striker/forward, although could be a gamble with just gyan till march.

Feel there could be a last minute deal go through though.

I hope the local press is one the money with these transfer stories. All the news from abroad seems to be bad.
