That club is an absolute mess. Mourinho did have a mare there and made a fair few mistakes but it's evident that some transfer policy was out of his hands. Personally I find the United situation hilarious.

I used to admire Jose but recently I became tired of his antics and I'm glad he is gone. I suspect player revolt may well be part of the reason for his departure and it will cost United dearly in the pocket book and the amount he will get in compensation makes me feel sick when you consider the financial limitations at clubs like ours. Good riddance and please take Pogba and Sanchez with you to wherever.

I think the only vaguely surprising aspect is the timing. I understand from the news that by firing him now it will cost the club a lot more in compensation than it would have had it been confirmed that he had failed to qualify for next seasons Champions League - I guess they felt that the extra amount was worth taking the risk that there was still something salvageable from the rest of this season and the seemingly toxic relationship between him and a number of senior players who may have been looking to move on (Pogba a case in point), may now be persuaded to stay.

His style seems very abrasive and divisive - I think if things are going well and the players are on his side then they feel empowered by it, but then if things start to go wrong then he often ends up alienating the very players who are supposed to be fighting for him. He never accepts blame or criticism personally and dumps it on his players instead, which over time will make them resent him.

Sometimes players can be motivated by being told they need to up their game, provided the criticism is constructive and justified, but Mourinho over-stepped this line too often. His stock will remain fairly high, but I think he'll struggle to get a truly top job from here, unless Real Madrid get desperate and hope he can repeat the moderate success he enjoyed whilst there, and I don't think he himself would accept a job at a slightly lower role (think your Arsenal or Valencia sized clubs), because I think he himself knows that he wouldn't likely be able to win trophys with them. Unless he's left out in the cold for too long, I wouldn't be surprised for him to say he's ready to manage the Portugal National Team and eventually worm his way there. The worst thing that could happen for him would be if they managed to win the Nations League next year!

    CARRICK AS CARETAKER

Michael Carrick and Kieron McKenna will take training for the next couple of days at Manchester United.

The club expect to announce a caretaker manager within the next two days but it will be someone from outside the club.

He had lost the dressing room so in many ways this was inevitable.

If I were them I would try to get Poch from Spurs in the Summer

Inevitable with their position and also his tactical approach , doesn’t help their neighbours being so successful and easy on the eye, the only slight surprise is the timing .

And if I were Poch, I'd steer well clear. I reckon the Real job's his if he wants it.

£24m for failure, good job if you can get it.

That said I’m not sure at that level, whether the Manure job is particularly appealing, seems like a bit of a hiding to nothing , failure would not look good on your CV, and yet judged against Sir Alex’s record you are almost certain to fail.

I don't think Pochettino will go anywhere near the place, or at least I hope he won't because it has become a poisoned chalice.

He’s well known for restricting youth development, look at Rashford and Martial. After all he deemed De Bruyn and Mo Salah not worth it and sold them, along with Lukako who he then paid massively over the odds for.
Alexi Sanchez, (I know some critise him over his money but Rooney done the same to Ferguson) was a fantastic player to watch at Arsenal. But for some reason he became a bit part although injured at the moment player under Mourinho.
To me he got wrapped up in his own self importance as the Special One that he just thought I would blame them and drop them.
After all Pogba who I know someone likes to rubbish but he’s only played for two clubs Man Utd and Juventus, so I doubt his loyalty can be called that much into question. But we all know played in the correct team can tear teams apart and will IMO if controlled better blossom now Mourinho has gone.
But where do they go from here? With Fergie on the directors board will no doubt be a daunting task for most but my money is on Zidane and I suspect they will write this season off with a caretaker manager and have one appointed by the summer.
One thing I will say is Solskjaer who is rumoured to be caretaker boss smacks of a Ferguson idea who he will probably groom, after all he was Cardiff’s worse nightmare. So I can’t think of any other reason why look at him.

I don't think his time at Cardiff is enough to write him off. Even Sir Alex got fired by St Mirren.

Although I think Jose had lost the plot I believe there are others who should take a serious look in the mirror. Many ex Man Utd players have made the comment that very few of the players were committed to the team in the same way they were under Fergie and essentially I think they are mercenaries looking for the next bigger pay packet. Aren't there any rules and regulations regarding player contracts when it comes to their employers or are they just allowed to do and say whatever they want whenever they want? If I were to be unfortunate enough to employ some of these mercenaries they would either do it my way or the highway, but then I would probably be accused of violating their human rights or even worse racial/religious intolerance.

Being a football manager in these days of namy pamby players only interested in self glorification and greed who also feel they, and they alone, have the right to decide where and how they play is virtually impossible to contemplate. P.S. Keep it up Lee.
