Wednesday 13th July 2016 JORDAN COUSINS JOINS QPR R’s clinch signing of Charlton Athletic midfielder QPR confirm Jordan Cousins signing The midfielder has penned a three-year deal JFH hails arrival of highly-rated 22-year-old QPR have beaten off stiff competition from a number of Championship clubs for the prized signature of highly-rated midfielder Jordan Cousins. The 22-year-old has today (Wednesday) agreed a three-year contract at Loftus Road, after Rangers had an undisclosed bid accepted by Charlton Athletic for the Englishman’s services. Cousins becomes QPR’s fourth signing of the summer transfer window, following Ariel Borysiuk, Joel Lynch and Jake Bidwell to Loftus Road, and boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has hailed the arrival of the sought-after midfield ace. “When I arrived here, I spoke at length about the kind of players I wanted to attract to QPR – and Jordan fits that bill exactly,” he toldwww.qpr.co.uk. “He’s young, he’s hungry, he’s got Championship experience and he’s got great potential to keep on improving at QPR. “I am absolutely delighted he’s a QPR player and can’t wait to start working with him.” Cousins has featured both centrally and wide for the Addicks, but Hasselbaink believes the former is his best position, commenting: “He’s a box-to-box midfielder and that’s where I see him featuring for us. “His energy and ability to score goals from midfield were two big factors in our desire to bring him here. “He’s someone who has been on our radar for a while and I’m sure the QPR fans will join me in welcoming him to our club.” Cousins heads to W12 in the wake of winning back-to-back Player of the Year awards at Charlton, and the Londoner is excited about starting the next chapter of his career at Loftus Road. “I felt this was the right time for me to move on – and for it to be to a massive club like QPR is a real pleasure for me,” he said. “This is a fresh, new start for me and one I am going to grab with both hands.” He added: “I spoke to the manager at length and we share similar beliefs as to how the game should be played. “I know what he is looking for from me as a central midfielder and I’m excited about pulling on the QPR shirt and showing the fans what I’m capable of. “I put all my efforts and dedication into football because I want to be the best player I possibly can be – and hopefully I can produce the best football of my career for QPR.” please log in to view this image please log in to view this image
Excellent, just what we needed. A young hungry box to box, energetic player. I love the fact he calls us a MASSIVE club, now just don't waste his abilities and stick him out on the wing !
I'm concerned...He thinks we're a massive club?... No, seriously, just the right type of signing, well done all concerned...
I think Charlie is still needed in the beard styling department, Glad his bonnet is looking respectable though. Good Luck Jordan and welcome. It'll be nice to see the word Jordan in some news that is not associated with a strange dwarf or rent a boob.
We take a closer look at our latest summer signing, Jordan Cousins … New QPR midfielder Jordan Cousins profiled 22-year-old agrees move to Loftus Road from Charlton Athletic TALENTED midfield player Jordan Cousins joins QPR off the back of an excellent campaign at Charlton Athletic, where he picked up the Player of the Year award for a second season in a row. Throughout difficult times on and off the pitch at The Valley, the 22-year-old continually impressed, with his ever-improving performances adhering him to the Addicks faithful. Born in Greenwich, Cousins joined his local side Charlton Athletic as a youngster and worked his way through the youth set-up. His quality led to international recognition, with Cousins winning caps at England Under 16, 17 and 18 level. In 2011, he was part of the England Under-17 side that made the Quarter-Finals of the World Cup in Mexico. The youngster demonstrated his versatility featuring as a right-back, playing behind Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling. He made his professional debut for the Addicks in August 2013, in a win against Oxford United in the League Cup, before enjoying a goalscoring league debut in a 2–2 draw against Barnsley later in the month. His impressive form brought many admirers, but Charlton managed to hang on to their prized asset and the midfielder signed a new long-term term contract. He continued to excel not only in his preferred central midfield spot, but also coming in off the left-hand side of midfield. Cousins further enhanced his reputation with a call up to the England Under-21’s squad for the Toulon Tournament, scoring on his debut in a 3-0 victory over Qatar. In season 2014/15, he was the stand-out performer for a Charlton side that finished mid-table in the Championship. He made 47 appearances and scored three goals, and was rewarded with the Player of the Year award and a new contract extension. During the 2015/16 season, Cousins scaled even greater heights – a rare plus-point in an otherwise forgettable season for the Addicks, who were relegated to League One at a whimper. Rangers fans will recall his impressive performance against the Hoops at Loftus Road in April, when his fine goal put the visitors on level terms, only for the R’s to clinch a last-minute winner. That display may well have been the one that convinced Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink to pursue the Englishman – and now we welcome Cousins to W12, hoping he can make a similar impact during his time at Loftus Road.
