Breaking news that the legendary and one of the best ever loved Rugby Union player's has died aged 40. RIP Jonah
I have a mental image of players desperately trying to haul him down as he powered towards the try line. RIP
Tragic,a one man wrecking machine.Without doubt, one of the most awesome sights in sport, was Jonah running with the ball !RIP big man.
Another to die far too young. Who could ever forget that sensational performance against England in the 1995 World Cup? The type of player who comes along once in a generation. His finest hour... RIP Jonah...
Tragic news. I read somewhere during the RWC that he wanted to live until his son was 21 (I think). I hope he made it. The perfect combination of pace, power and ability. RIP Jonah Lomu.
Sad news. Met this GENTLEMAN in Christchurch 1998 (on England rugby tour, we lost every game) in a bar/club called Captain Cooks (I think). He had women following him all over the place. He saw me and my mate *issed with our England shirts on and took time to come over just for a chat. RIP.
A great great player and by all accounts a good man, dealt with his virtually lifelong condition very bravely. Also a symbol of rugby's transition to professionalism and the 'size matters' philosophy that has dominated for 15 years, and probably started to combat Jonah after we had a good laugh at Underwood and Catt trying to tackle him in South Africa. Now there are plenty of players as big as Lomu, but none as good. He wasn't just huge and fast, he could dance.
So sorry to hear this. I always had sympathy for the mere mortals who had to face Jonah on the wing... legendary player who had to retire too soon, and died far, far too soon RIP
Hammer, nothing to do with this thread but I notice you don't space between commas or full stops. Any reason?
Clive Woodward quote on Lomu: "We used to give him a huge amount of attention," "I remember saying at a team meeting on Friday night that there was nobody in their team would get in our team and man for man I wouldn't swap anybody and was doing my motivational talk. "When I got to the end Will Greenwood put his hand up and said 'Clive, we're all with you but I think I'm speaking on behalf of all the team and I think we'd probably swap Austin Healey for Jonah Lomu.' RIP
Very sad news. Took rugby to another level in many ways, and one of the first 'stars' of the game. Will be sadly missed. RIP
