OK ok, don't go on about me 'not moving on'! I'm more than aware there are plenty more fish in the sea but I'm not just writing this due to pining.... When a Huddersfield fan asked me for my opinions on their new (re-)signing I was more than happy to help and this is what I wrote. I thought you might be interested in having a read... http://exiledrobin.blogspot.co.uk/2013/07/jon-stead-farewell-to-adopted-hthead.html
Total 200% agreement. A very genuine and much respected/loved member of our squad for the last three years. We will miss him and Huddersfield will gain someone who has proved to City fans to be "One of Us". There aren't too many non Bristolians we can say that about.
He was a good bloke, a true professional, always gave 100% and a real team player, not a glory grabber and I wish Steady all the best in the future, regardless of his team, he was a big man and our red shirt fitted him well.. Your article is adroit and spot on as usual, I enjoyed it..
Living in south bristol I have never heard any city fan call themselves a ****head!! Never. Wouldn't call John Stead one either.
Wouldn't it have been nice if someone, anyone, at Ashton Gate had been able to provide him with the support that could have saved us from our downfall? Nobody appeared tuned in to our needs and so we have lost a player who deserved better and most City fans wish him well, thanks John!
Stead is a great player. I, for some strange reason, keep an eye on Blackburn Rovers and Stead was a decent player back then as well. Top bloke too
Fantastic artical, think you summed up everything about him. His desire to carry the club will always give him a hero's welcome back to our club.
In the minority here but thought Stead was overrated because of his work rate and apparant passion for the club, didn't win any headers for a big bloke, was fairly weak for a big target man and scored hardley any goals a season
No one is saying he's the best footballer to ever be at the club. Just thanking him for his commitment to the club and how surprised we were from when we were buying this journeyman.
