He already does a great job of keeping the ball out of the net a the other end of the pitch!

Have to agree with Munky, that whenever I´ve seen Ruddy this year, he´s looked heavy and slow, and he´s certainly not making the same sort of saves that he did a couple of seasons ago, or even last season. What the reason is, goodness knows, but we have changed our goalkeeping coach recently, don´t know whether there is any friction there, certainly wouldn´t go amiss to give Rudd a chance, occasionally.

It's been pretty obvious to me that Ruddy has been very poor by his previous standards this season, and much of last, however I hardly see anyone daring to criticise him or blame him for the number of silly goals we've been letting in.

I'm just waiting for Superman Wears to tell us how rubbish he's been, then more of our fans on here will surely decide that he has been after all.

There was a comment on motd2 about how the Chelsea players know they'll get bollicked, lose their place in the side - doesn't really seem to be the case at Norwich

We're not Chelsea. Why would things be the same here as they are there?

Also Cuellar and Whittaker are two players to have lost their place in the side off the top of my head. Johnson also had a spell on the sidelines.

not quite sure what i've got to do with it.

you wrote the article and pretty much everyone (myself included) agrees with you.

whether its right to drop him is another matter. it'd be a bold, brave move but i'd certainly be tempted.

I wasn't suggesting they would be the same, I was implying that a sense of needing to play for one's place hadn't been instilled and maybe it should be, but what do I know, it's just an opinion

I definitely think it's the right time to drop him. Now. Early. Rudd has looked decent when he's stepped up. Let Ruddy panic about his place, really work hard and win it back for the second half of the season.

I agree that he hasn't looked like the Keeper we all know he can be. I personally don't think it'll hurt to drop him for a few games and let him know he's not untouchable. I'd be happy to give Declan Rudd a go and not forgetting we still have Mark Bunn, don't we?

I know a lot of people are saying drop him so he knows there is competition. But are you sure that is why he is playing badly? Is dropping him suddenly going to make him work hard and become better? You need to know all the facts. Yes, if he is complacent in his position which has caused poor performances then he needs competition. But he doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who would become complacent. There can be many reasons for poor form, not least having some awful defensive displays in front of him.

Wasn't a dig at you mate, rather the suggestion that some people on here treat your word as gospel and seem to await your approval before getting behind a particular train of thought.
Of course I could be completely wrong about that.

Didn't make my post very clear, I didn't mean people weren't questioning his form, rather they didn't seem able to do so without aligning the blame on an individual's performances with our manager.

It wasn't my greatest contribution to be fair <ok>

Hasn't been the same since Dave Watson left to give Fraser Forster a hand at Saints.

IMO, Ruddy, like others who were playing in the PL last year (Olsson, Johnson and Tettey in particular) are struggling to find the same concentration and intensity levels against Championship teams (a big reason why relegated teams struggle). QPR also started well last season and then fell away badly and had to scrape through in the play-offs, in spite of having a very experienced manager and all that WCT. Both the mid-field and defence looked far too casual against Brighton and certainly this was a factor in all three of their goals. I'm not sure shouting would change this, but some other way needs to be found if we are to get back on course.

I'd love to know what anyone thinks Ruddy could have done about the goals on Saturday.

Goal 1 - no way can he come for that cross, Olsson just isn't tight and it's begging to be put in the back of the net.

Goal 2 - Howson is a statue, putting no pressure on a shot from just over 10 yards out. Not only did Lualua have all the goal to aim at thanks to Howson, I think it's Hooiveld and a Brighton player right in front of Ruddy.

Goal 3 - sent the wrong way (good penalty)

All three goals were criminally poorly defended, only a wonder save would have kept the first two out.

Ruddy hasn't been at his best, but if our defence don't know what they are doing as individuals or as a unit, Ruddy just gets exposed week in and week out. More reasons to drop Martin than Ruddy.

Let's see what happens after Wednesday. I'm hoping Phelan manages to get some desperately needed organisation and cohesion going.

You really think he couldn't have done any better with the second goal on Saturday???

And sorry, I've seen plenty of "wonder saves" from opposition keepers in the past couple of seasons, don't recall any from Ruddy so surely it's not that unreasonable of us to expect he might make one or two sooner or later is it? We were banging the drum for him being the second best English keeper not too long ago - are you really saying his form this year would put him anywhere near the England squad at the moment?

Pretty much agree with this, although I accept Ruddy's performance levels have dropped since he was injured. I think if i'm honest Martin has cost us many more goals & points than Ruddy this season. Ruddy is still in credit with me for sticking with the club, when he could have easily arranged a move over the summer. I just hope his loyality doesn't cost him.
