Very good centre back, was brilliant for Sunderland and still is for Ghana. Just been released by Lyon - an option, surely?

Think he would be a decent signing.

Take him for a year and see how he does.

Could well be worth a punt. But as everyone says about every prospective signing "he doesn't fit the profile"...

Would he be willing to sign a one-year contract though? He'd probably get better offers.

Would be a phenomenal free pick up! We have to something about the frailties in defense and also in goal. I can't say whether Gazzaniga is premier league yet but Davis is not!

If we signed someone like Artur Boruc and John mensah I would feel like we had won the lottery during this transfer window!

Wikipedia says a lot of things.

Most of them true, to be fair, but this one isn't.

Just noticed the Daily Mail fell for it, they're saying he's recently left Panathinaikos, but he's never played for them! Quality paper that.

Some aspects of his game are PL quality. Others not so much, he doesn't seem to be able to catch a shot to save his life.

Davis is a decent shot stopper, but his distribution is awful. Gazzaniga is good at both and will be number one in the coming years. Plus at 6 foot 5, he'll be better at catching balls from set pieces. I don't see Davis being replaced this season, but I would have personally got another keeper in who's got Premiership experience to push Kelvin and to then send Gazzaniga out on loan to a Championship club so he would then be ready for next season. Sadly, I don't think Gazzaniga will be ready because he hasn't played above league two and he hasn't got many games under his belt.

I thought Kelvin Davis was poor against Man U. Too often he displaced his kicks out to our defenders. Also his kicks out were markedly reaching far less a distance than Lindaart's.

I think a goalkeeper was made less of a priority in the transfer window, which probably was for the best. Need to review the goalkeeper situation coming up to the January transfer window.

This what annoys me about blind idiotic football fans such as you!

Have a little longer look than the end of your effing nose!

Both penalties were awful and any pro keeper should be saving them!

And majorly Davis was at fault for the united penalty on Saturday anyway, it was his awful pass out that put us under major pressure!

I swear some of you have outstanding view points and great arguments ....some I agree and some I dont, but the lack of understanding from some doughnuts like this plonker is just unbelievable!

If we came in for him he'd be an idiot to join West Ham. And i dunno i kinda feel SKD deserves his shot at the Premier League, he's had a bad time of it in the PL in the past so against lesser teams where he's under less pressure he may do at least an adequate job, at least he has the experience

Although I understand your compassion for Davis this is about the club, it's progression, the fans etc and I'm afraid showing compassion for weak individual team members gets you relegated!

It's bad enough we haven't strengthened the defence enough, I'm just hoping yoshida is "the business" if not we are going to have to score 4 goals just to win a bloody game!

fair point Dre, but i reckon once Kelvin gets the hang of this new passing thing he's been told to do, or Nigel tells him its ok to just hoof it, he wont be a weak link - certainly dont think Boruc or Gordon or any of the other names being banded around atm would be much of an improvement! [altho 2 years ago i wouldve snapped ur hand off for either of those two, both world class back then]

The thing is we have been playing the "pass the ball out" thing from Davis for 2 years, generally it's quite effective but sometimes a hoof is what's required, goalkeepers are not on that field because of their FOOTballing talents they are there to save goals!
Kelvin is a liability and Boruc would be a fantastic signing, he played 62 games for a top side like Fiorentina in the last 2 seasons and then rejected a new deal he wasn't released! Can't find a saints link but it does t look as though the lists I have seen that we have named Cropper on the list ( I know he's young) meaning maybe we are looking at a new keeper...we have 3 spaces so why not use them?

think i read elsewhere that under 21s dont have to be listed - which is why Gazza and Cropper arent on it, i'd be surprised if a keeper was first priority though

They are on a separate, unrestricted, list. Gazzaniga is on it but Cropper isn't.
