Just after he'd sorted out his differences with the club, too. Sad, sad news.

    God bless him.

He's a good man. Hope he pulls through.

A statement issued on behalf of Greaves' family read: 'Football legend Jimmy Greaves suffered a severe stroke on Sunday May 3, and is in intensive care in hospital.

'His wife, Irene, and four children have asked for privacy during what is a worrying time for the family.

'They will issue a bulletin on his condition when it is appropriate.

Horrible news! Let's hope he recovers as well as possible from this. I would like to think the club will support his family in some way.

Probably the deadliest poacher/striker I ever saw. He so rarely missed, how we could have done with one half as good this season!

I remember seeing Jimmy play towards the end of his career, in fact I pretty sure he scored in the 1-1 draw at Loftus Road in the '68/69 season.
I wish him a full & speedy recovery.

    I echo this.

Hopefully he recovers well and gets inducted into the Spurs Hall of Fame where he belongs

Awful news. A "serious stroke" is not a good report. Never have I loved a player like I have done with Jimmy Greaves. My all time hero and I hope he returns to full health as quickly as possible.

BBC News has just done a quick report.
They are saying he is in intensive care. This is bad bad bad. :(

It is very sad news. It is extremely hard on the families of stroke victims so I hope that not only Spurs, but all of his other clubs offer all the support that Jimmy's family need. Here's hoping that you make as complete recovery as possible Jimmy and that you will be able to come to the Lane again in due course.

What a player and what a man, the respect shown to Jimmy for not only his football skills but for his dignity and determination in his private life speaks volumes about the man.

Don't let this beat you Greavsie.<ok>

Greaves was one of the greatest strikers,(forwards, in his day),to have ever graced the game.
Always a joy to see him,but sadly, only on TV.
He made goal scoring look so easy.
    In addition,he is a genuinely nice,modest person.
    Get well soonest,Sir.

Sad to see such a dearth of posts on this thread.

Presumably the people who follow P.L. don't acknowledge those who preceded it.

I'm far too young to have ever seen him play but just to hear people talk about him, and of course a glance at his records, shows the class of the player. From reading one of his books I got a sense of the man too, he seems a good man who very much misses the simpler days of football. I naturally hope he makes a recovery as soon as possible.

Libertarian - don't be too harsh on those that haven't commented all Spurs and football fans alike are saddened at JG's illness but we are all with him in spirit as he fights his way back to health.
Thank you for your kind words though.
