thought I would start a separate thread so as not to side track the thread on Bradley Lowery but just had to say how much JD has impressed me with his involvement with BL. He has come across as genuinely interested in Bradley and has done so much to improve the image (not deliberately or planned) of the average footballer. I know a lot of footballers do charity work but JD clearly took a personal liking to this young boy and words fail me as to how much JD has gone up in my estimation for what he did with BL and BL's family. Just thought it needed to be said.
Completely agree - been total class with the little lad all the way through. So nice to see when you normally just get negative reporting for footballers
Absolutely agree Trev. It is easy to get a skewed view of someone (either positive or negative) once they pull on a football shirt, but what Jermaine Defoe has done shows him to be a top class guy with a heart of gold. His interview the other day shows his genuine love of the little fella, and was heartbreaking to watch. I am sure the football world is full of genuinely good and honourable people across all teams - mixed in with quite a few dickheads all across football too (including in black and white). As others have said, it is so good to be reminded of the fact that there are genuinely good people in football when so many headlines are negative. I hope he gets a warm and rousing welcome when he comes to St James this season, before kick off, to show our appreciation of what he has done. That said, once the game kicks off I hope he receives a typical ex-mackem welcome (without any malice) to show that we can distinguish between what goes on on the park and what takes place off it.
Said this on our board as well. Horrible what that kid and his family have had to go through but big respect to Defoe who couldn't have done more for him & his family to make the last months of his life some that he'll have enjoyed.
