So he is the highlight of media attention again and I am sure there will be many only waiting to have a go at the guy for his comments...http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...claims-delays-Heathrow-solved-bit-racism.html

However, what is the problem with some discretion within our UK airports? Has common sense all but deminished and been replaced by political correctness gone mad through fear of upsetting someone, all hidden under the guise of security.

Do government intelligence agencies not carry out profiling, so what is the problem with experienced border agency staff using that same discretion based up on information received from those same intelligence agencies, especially as in todays high tech world where it is known we are travelling before we even reach the airports, rather than stopping every single man, woman and child that passes through our airports.

'Nobody is waved through any more. Immigration officials are not allowed to use their discretion,' he said.

'Common sense has been erased from the system. And the result is plain for all to see. There's a two-hour wait. And come the Olympics they're saying that time frame will double.

'Net result: Immigration officials have to assume that the nice family of four coming back from their holiday in Sardinia is going to cheat the social out of millions then blow up during the 100 metres final.'

Clarkson then went on to say there is a possible solution to the problem.

'Nobody likes a racist. Nobody likes prejudice. It has no place at work, at play or on the terraces of a football stadium. It has no place at school, or in government.

    'But at Heathrow airport? Hmmm.'

Before the ceasefires we used to get ****ing tortured in airports because we were paddies.

It's not just about picking out all the brown people and letting the white people through, it's about waving through the family of 4 returning from Disney Land or the group of 6 girls all in pink obviously on a hen do.

I think he makes a fair point, it's not even being racist, all it's doing is evaluating which people are high risk and which people are low risk. It's no different to the Police pulling over a group of young males in a car late at night, yet the same police would ignore a middle aged woman driving home at the same time. Is that discrimination, or is that just using abit of common sense as to who's more likely to be up no good?

I've been stopped many a time going through airports, I have no problem with that, however, when they stop the mother with a bunch of screaming kids at the same time, it does my ****ing head in. Also on outgoing flight checks, a lot of custom officers do not understand the technical side of new components in devices such as netbooks, so they scan them, re-scan them, chat between themselves for 10 minutes, then still allow you through with such items. So they admit they do not know what the new components are in the devices but allow you through anyway. Proving a whole pointless exercise in the first place.

Just makes me laugh when they hold you up coming back in the country, they knew you was on the flight, you had completed visa checks in advance and yet they still delay and question you on arrival. I nearly lost it with one guy, if you do not want to let me back in, send me back on holiday!

Obviously apart from being raped at security and having to queue for an hour at passport control, the other single most frustrating aspect of air travel today is when the hostess tells you to turn off your Kindle <grr>

Nothing beats a good old bit of daily mail racism though. Love their caption under the picture of queues at security...

"For years border officials feebly admitted thousands of people with tenuous claims to be refugees"

It would be a lot easier if we just did'nt let any foreigners in at all, even the Irish.

The problem here is the word 'racism', on 2 levels

One clarksons use of it as in by suggesting that to dod o was being a little racist

Secondly, and more importantly, due to racism, What I mean is that I have travelled to Pakistan many times and never had a problem. On one occassion I went on my own for a short while and on the way back was questioned loads. Which is fair enough IMO. single bloke travelling on his own
I only had questioning at the kiosks for abot half an hour and this was at the Pakistan end

What gets ridiculous is that a friends 67 year old father and mid thirties sister were stopped at manchester and questioned for 6 hours under the 'terrorism act', were not told why simply given a piece of paper, then released and couldnt question anything

The thing was they were on a return flight from abroad and had landed back in the UK, so not like any incident would have been prevented

Also like to add that most of those getting arrested at airports havent always been brown/asian etc. They have been balck/white converts, most with obvious psychologoical problems and the 9/11 guys (if we are to believe all that) didnt fit the profiles as suggested.
