Just skimming through Sky Sports Channels tonight, when suddenly saw a certain Francis Jeffers scoring for Newcastle Jets in the Oz A League - what a comedown for a talented player - what happened?
Over-hyping by a variety of managers and agents. I'm convinced that if he'd been allowed to develop at his own pace and without the weight of so much expectation, he'd have been a better player.
A notoriously bad trainer whilst with us- he often moaned about being fit and not selected, but curbs tried to explain its not all about having "no injuries", and to fight harder for his place. He never did.
Brilliantly summed up Doc... No pace, not a threat in the air, bereft of any sort of first touch, not particulary good with his back to or facing goal. All he possessed Imo was intelligent movement in the box. However, without any of the previously mentioned attributes in his locker he was always going to struggle to put himself in decent positions on a regular basis. Never had enough of a rounded game to become a success at the top level of our game.
When i can bring myself to watch a full game of the a league, and if i see jeffers, he doesnt now even look up to much.
