According to the rag - Simmo wants a new contract. I think he should have one as he's shown a new lease of life under Brucie.

JAY Simpson is hoping to open talks with Hull City over extending his stay at the KC Stadium, the Mail can reveal.

The in-form striker, who has endured two difficult seasons at the Tigers, has come back into prominence under Steve Bruce and is the club’s leading scorer this season.

The 23-year-old has already found the net six times this campaign – the same amount as he scored combined in the previous two seasons under Nigel Pearson and Nick Barmby.

And delighted with the opportunity he has been given by Bruce, Simpson’s representatives will look to open talks soon about him staying on.

“Jay’s main focus now is on playing as many games as he can and scoring the goals that will get Hull City back up into the Premier League, but he would obviously be delighted to talk about a new deal,” said Simpson’s representative.

“He is buzzing to be involved again and he’s delighted he’s been given his chance.”

Simpson will be out of contract at the end of the current campaign, a situation enabling him to seek a move to a new club should he wish.

In the past, this situation has often been viewed as an advantage for in-form players during negotiations.

However, given the quality of free transfers now regularly on the market in the off-season, agents have told the Mail they are increasingly looking to secure new deals for players to stay on at their current clubs.

And with Bruce so far being good to his word on offering Simpson a clean slate, the player is relaxed over his future.

“Steve Bruce has proven at Sunderland and Wigan that he rewards people who do well for him and he is a manager who gives out new deals when they are

deserved, so Jay is happy to wait for the club to make its move,” added his representative.

“He hasn’t had the best of times at Hull, but under Bruce he has been given a new lease of life.

“When he was the top scorer in pre-season and then on the bench for the first game, he thought it could be a case of ‘here we go again’.

“But Bruce said he would give him his chance and he’s been true to his word.

“Jay can’t ask for any more than that.”

Good, for a player who sort of disappeared for a full Season and stayed out of the media saying, "I want to leave, I'm getting no game time". That patience should be rewarded.

Is it just me or is it easy to forget how young he is? Still only 23 and it mustve been really tough for him when he first came here after never having lived outside London. He's settled now Id give him a 2 year deal at the blink of an eye.

He's done enough to earn a new contract with us and we've finally seen the player we thought we'd see when he first signed.

Definitely worthy of a new deal as his best years are hopefully still to come

Have always thought he should have been given a better crack at the first team ever since he joined with us and got dropped by Pearson after hitting great form.

I'm well chuffed with this as he's only going to get better and seems like a stand up bloke.

As I've always said (an irritating number of times to many) - a quality striker who just needed a fair chance to prove himself - and has done.

    New three year deal please.
