Ok, I know the Daily Mirror likes plucking rumours from the moon, however they are reporting a bid of £5m from us for Jay Rodriguez - a bit pricey in my opinion and probably due to his 4 goals midweek
He would be phenomenal alonngside Lambert. A great finisher and playing alongside Lambert would grab 25+ goals a season.
What's wrong with Lee Barnard who is basically the same player... AND David Connolly who is in outstanding form at the moment...
Lee Barnard could be facing a custodial sentence. David, as we all know, is injury prone and one could be just round the corner. Jay Rodriguez is young, pacey, and has a massive future.
We're trying to buy for the future as well as the present. Connelly and Lambert in form will be hard players to shift, but injuries happen and form can drop off. Competition keeps everyone on their toes. The new contract that Barnard got suggests that Saints don't expect him to get a custodial sentence.
Connolly, in the last 5 years hasn't been able to play 25+ games a season due to injury, so even if Barnard doesn't go down and Connolly continues his current trend of injuries, that will leave us with 2 recognised strikers. Yes Guly could play there, and De Ridder too apparently, but I would much rather we signed an established forward, and if Connolly doesn't get injured and Barnard isn't given a prison sentence, then (provided we sign somebody) we have 4 striking options. And seeing as we play 2 up top that is the perfect amount imo.
Guys and Girls what do you make of this then!! When he scored his 4 goals in the Carling Cup his team mates wrote on the ball. One of them wrote "Bye bye Jay Rod"!! I wonder if he is coming then!! http://i51.tinypic.com/2hyji85.png (apologise if it doesn't load it has been tempremental this morning!!)
As has already been mentioned, it could well have been Danny Fox. Although Fox did say that he didn't know he was leaving Burnley untill late on Wednesday so who knows.
Sorry, didn't know it had already been mentioned. Yeah may have been by Fox but then again as you say he didn't know until the next day that Saints were interested!! I guess we may find out soon if there is anything in it.
I thought you we're all about stability. How can 5m on a youth who has only had one half of a season where he has been any good be stable? :S
Someone has completely messed up his wiki page at the moment - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jay_Rodriguez lol.
Adding young prospect to our strikers when we only have 3 (2 and a half really) is hardly going to rock the boat sir. Besides, this figure is paper talk, if it was £5m I'm not sure Cortese would go for it.
Well if we were stable before the Chamberlain transfer, and the chairman decides to invest the Chamberlain money (12 mil) on players, how does that make us any less stable?
Well you're clearly not about stability at all, Keane wouldn't want any less than 50 grand a week - which he clearly isn't worth anymore.
