Havent seen an article on this but he's the non league striker on trial, made his debut earlier today for the reserves and scored once in a 3-1 win. Will no doubt help his cause as Pardew watched the game.

Jason Prior netted on his Newcastle United debut in front of Alan Pardew today in the Magpies' 3-1 second string win against Wigan.

The Magpies took the lead in injury time in the first half when Dan Gosling's corner was converted by Remie Streete from close range.

Wigan equalised through Jordan Rugg after a slip by Rob Elliot following a left wing cross on 66 minutes.
But Newcastle regained the lead through sub Brad Inman after a side footed finish inside the box on with 17 minutes left.

Prior's big moment came four minutes later when a powerful right footed shot from 10 yards found the top corner.

Overall Prior performed well but the Bognor Regis triallist must wait to see what feedback he recieves from Pardew and his backroom team.

On a sour note Sammy Ameobi limped off with a knee injury after coming out second best after a 50-50 challenge.

NUFC Reserves: Elliot, Nzuzi, Streete, McDermott, Henderson, Kadar, Gosling, Vuckic, Sammy, Prior, Donaldson

Sounds promising, I just hope he isn't the only striker we're looking at...

Sammy limping out is a sour note, we need him as cover. Why wasn't Ferguson playing or has he gone out on loan while I wasn't looking?

This guy looks promising and can't be a huge risk. Give him a deal to the end of the season and take it from there. <ok>

We need more depth in all areas and this guy could provide it. Good find by the scouting system.

I reckon he could be Chopra-esque if we sign him; only really plays for the reserves but then randomly pops up when we need him (a la the 1-4)

I could see him making the bench while Ba's away, Shola and Best could easily both be starting and Lover's injured.

At 23 you'd think this would be his last chance to make it at a good level, the likes of Smalling and that all moved from non-league a few years younger if im not mistaken.

Alot of talent in the lower leagues, this is what annoys me about big teams, they just spend no end of money on big ego players.

I'm sure this was to throw teams off our targets and ensure we didn't face stiff competition from the best teams of non-league football for this lad.

I'm maybe putting 2 and 2 together and making 5 , but watched the Willie Donarchy interview on nufctv (he's reserve coach) and he said something along the lines of:

"I was dead pleased for him, he's a dead honest, lovely big guy and he does score goals. And as you say It was a great opportunity for him, to come here and train and there was lots of scouts were at the game one of them might so 'well he's good enough for us', hopefully"

Sounds like he might not quite have made the grade?

Pretty shocking if we don't give him a contract considering how cheap he is. He scored a goal for christ's sake, what do they expect? A hat trick in his very first game?
