We have four strikers at the club and one right sided midfielder who many of us believe could do a job up top.

Euell - Not an out and out goalscorer.

Hayes - Not an out and out goalscorer.

    BWP - Pure goalscorer.

    Benson - Pure goalscorer.

Yes we have a number of midfielders who can pitch in with goals. However, should BWP suffer an injury i really can't see who of the remaining three forwards we have at our disposal is capable of providing a regular supply of goals..

It is for this reason i feel it would be tantamount to suicide for us to even consider letting Benson leave.

I couldn't agree with you more and am backing Benno to have another successful season.

As the season has started and I want to support all our players - even though I said we should bomb Benno out - I will concede that Benno is a 'pure goalscorer'...

...for White Ensign. Some of the defences in the Essex Olympian League are watertight.

I am not going to worship at The Temple Of Paul Benson just because he scored a fair amount of goals at non-league level. Yes, he scored 10 goals last season in 32 games; not a great amount, not a terrible amount, but in my opinion, he is a poor player. He is good for non-league, and perhaps League 2, even as a squad player, but not our spear-head.

While I agree Benson being the spearhead of the team wouldn't get us out of this league, he's a very useful squad player to have. Remember its about having strength in depth and we are in a far healthier position than the last 2 years at least

Euell will pitch in with the goals if played, he could easily get a starting place alongside BWP for me. This is a guy who has played in the Premier League and scored 10+ goals for us a season too against Hayes and Benson who are both at there level and played in the lower leagues all there careers. Euell has a far greater pedigree and people shouldn't under-estimate what a good signing he is just because he's not had a great time of it since he left us.

Fair point, Martinho. Strength in depth is key.

Ponders you are as much a Benson hater as Mike is a Llera lover... Nothing's ever going to change that.

Put simply, I'd be happier to keep Benson in reserve behind BWP than accept what is likely to be an insignificant transfer fee.

Knowing our luck we'd let him go BWP would bust his knee or something, the window will slam shut and we'll end up with the likes Frank 'couldn't hit a barn door' Nouble on loan.

Stick or twist... For me it's stick all day long.

I`m also a big Benson fan think he is vastly underated and gets unfair critisim...I dont think Hayes is any better to be honest.

I thought we saw in the last 10 mins. that Benson has a bit of understanding with BWP, maybe not surprising considering they've played a few times together. Maybe CP is keeping Benson as cover for BWP, but I'd like to see how they played together with this midfield, especially Green, behind them.

I am going to wait and see how Euell does during his first few games before making a judgement. Sure he was great for us 5 or 6 years ago but I'm worried that he won't deliver what we expect him too this time around and we'll have another Jonathan Fortune on our hands. I hope that doesn't happen, cos I love the guy, but we'll just have to wait and see.
