I know it's never going to happen.

But he is unsettled at Chelsea and he always wanted to come to Arsenal when he was at Athletico.
Villa-Boas is annoyed with him for saying that Chelsea players 'are slow'.
He's beginning to look like even more of a waste of money than Shevchenko.
Chelsea might want to offload for £20m if things don't improve.
He'd have to take a massive drop in wages.

    Worth a punt?

Weird I was just thinking the same thing.

He's a confidence player - something he is obviously low on at the moment. At his best he's absolutely unplayable.

Dont forget Wenger tried to sign him back in his Athletico days.

I guess it depends on how much chelsea will be willing to let him go for- or whever they would be willing to let him go at all. He does'nt suit their style of play anways.

Under the right conditions (wages & fee) then definitely. He'd sell MASSIVE amounts of shirts, and RvP in the hole with Torres leading the line may actually make me cry.

Would not pay 20m for him to be honest, 27 yrs old was already showing poor form for Liverpool for some time and looks burn out. Would be worth a punt at 10-12m tops I reckon but probobly best left where he is. That way he can cause some unrest & no one will want him on those wages, doubt he'd be willing to consider our 90k max salary as sufficient anyway.

I doubt they would sell to a direct rival, or even a club in the premier league. I would personally, in my opinion sign him. He's not exactly a £50million asset atm. More like £20million.

    Cissokoho
    Torres
    Erikson

    I would sign.

The way that the pundits and even some of our own fans write us off, Chelsea might not even consider us rivals anymore (I'm sure they know better really ;))
But I'd have Torres at Arsenal in a flash.
He'd suit our style of play.
And I think his confidence would thrive.

we would not be allowed to sign him. But for say £25m I'd risk it. Would not pay more than that as he may be going downhill.

I think it's beyond question he is going downhill, confidence aside, he was far from playing well for some time at Liverpool also. 25m would be better invested in Eden Hazard this Jan.

He's 27 he is not going downhill. In four years time maybe.

  11. Notwithstanding my siggy of the transfer period, I'd go with this <ok>

Fernando Torres hasn't done anything that I can make out for quite a while. Who knows if he'll turn around his form but £25m is still a risky investment. Despite Saturday's goal, just take a look at Arshavin...

Apparently Liverpool have got first refusal if Chelsea sell him. Don't know if it's true though.

Chelsea bought him for £50m 8 months ago, they are the original 'money no object' club and have no interest in balancing the books or attempting to make their 'business' look remotely viable.
They'd be happer tying him to his contract and watching him leave for one of the 18 average to poor Spanish clubs when his contract is over.
Apart from anything else Abramovic is too stubborn to admit he made a mistake, remember the Shevchenko saga ?

That makes no sense... plenty of players went downhill long before the random age of 31 you seem to allude to. Many factors play into this from injury, form, attitude and physical make up. Just look at Michael Owen for a text book case of a player dropping off long before he was anywhere hear his 30's.
It won't happen that we will bid for him and even at the time the bid 50m was insanity, the guy playing well could be worth up to 25m but right now is worth much less if you look at the player objectively.

Why we never tried to sign him when he was at Athletico I will never know - he was flying at the time. We even had a bargaining chip as they wanted (and finally got) Reyes. Could have been a player plus cash deal!

I'd leave him there, to be honest. Chelsea are obviously facepalming that they spent such a ridiculous amount of money signing a dud. They'd probably be laughing if they sent him over to us for any reasonable amount of money.

Yep, definitely espescially if your manager wasn't a miserly old twat who hates spending money on a button for his trousers never mind a playing staff.

He wouldn't fit with the team though.

He's not french and is over 5'0 tall.
