DARYL Janmaat will answer Newcastle United’s defensive SOS – even though he has NEVER played at centre-half.
The club is without suspended captain Fabricio Coloccini for the next three games.

    BANNED ... Fabricio Coloccini.
Coloccini was sent off in Sunday’s dismal 3-0 defeat to Everton at Goodison Park.

The 33-year-old’s suspension has left United head coach John Carver with just ONE senior centre-half – Mike Williamson – for the next month.
And right-back Janmaat will be asked to play in central defence against Arsenal at St James’s Park on Saturday – despite having no experience of the position.
For his part, Janmaat, 25, says he doesn’t have any central reservations.
If the team needs me there, I am confident I can do well there, even though I have not played as a central defender in the whole of my career.
    Daryl Janmaat
“I will play in the middle of the defence if I am asked to do so, although it is not really my position,” said Janmaat.
“It is not really as though I have ambitions to stay there, but we all know what the situation is at the moment. If I have to play there, I will'.
“If the team needs me there, I am confident I can do well there, even though I have not played as a central defender in the whole of my career.'
“The second half at Everton was the first time I have played there, so it is not something I know all that well.”
Coloccini was dismissed by referee Martin Atkinson for a lunge at Aaron Lennon.
“I didn’t really see the incident all that well, but the feeling in the dressing room after the game seemed to be that it was a red card,” said Janmaat.

After a bright start, Newcastle’s performance quickly unravelled.
And Janmaat admits the team got what they deserved – nothing.
“Right from the start, it was simply not good enough,” said the Holland international.
“I thought Everton deserved the win – it wasn’t about luck. We didn’t deserve anything, and we didn’t get anything.”
Carver and his players spoke at length after the match, and Janmaat insists there is a “determination” to put it right over the coming weeks.
“We spoke after the game, and there is a determination to make sure we do not repeat what happened against Everton,” said Janmaat.
“I thought we were better with 10 men than we were with 11, and that should not be the case.
“The energy was not high enough, and the performance was simply not good enough all round.
“We have to play much better in the next game to have any chance of getting a result. If we play in the same way against Arsenal, we will have no chance of doing anything.”
The Arsenal match is followed by the Wear-Tyne derby on April 5. United will also be without Coloccini for the April 13 fixture against Liverpool at Anfield.
“There are some difficult games coming up now,” said Janmaat.”
“Our squad is getting smaller because players are unavailable, so we have to make sure we are giving absolutely everything in the game.
“We don’t have too many players left now, but that is the situation and the transfer window is closed.
We have to do it with this group, and we have to stay positive. We have to try to get some better results with the players we have.”

Love Janmaat's attitude. He speaks like he plays, no nonsense.

Yeah l really like this guy, however it's not the first time that he has spoken about the team effort Not being good enough and that there is a determination to put things right.
That doesn't materialise though does it. As much as l like Jannmat and cannot fault his attitude and performances we have heard this all before. I doubt he will be around this shower for much longer.

So with the idea of Janmaat playing CB out in the open, can we expect Anita to be playing there for the next game?

Would rather we play Riviere at CB if it means Ayoze gets a chance up front.

Perhaps Jonas LB with Raylor RB; but more likely Satka will play RB, get destroyed, and never play for us again.

Jonas and RT at fullback will be painful on Saturday. With the pace Arsenal have on the wings they will get destroyed.

I don't think it matters who plays where anymore because we simply are not good enough to compete with the likes of Arsenal anyway
Plus the fact they will be still smarting over their Monaco exit.
That said there are two Arsenal teams that have turned out this season, one is unplayable znd the other is insepid, but even so we are still gonna get stomped

The unplayable one will turn up against us. They did last season and at the Emirate earlier this season. We are hopeless and Arsenal will be looking to close the gap on Chelski.

    My team would be:

    GK Krul

    RB Satka
    LB Raylor
    CB Janmaat
    CB Willo

    CM Anita
    CM Colback
    CM Sissoko

    AM Cabella
    AM Obertan

    ST Perez

Yes its unfair on Satka to get thrown in at the deep end but we have no ****ing choice. Just stop picking Gouf and Sammy, its not funny. That line up is a joke mind. This club is a shambles.

****ing hell. That line up is shocking. The best that this club can field speaks volumes about the clueless ****ing half-wits that run the club. That isn't even a good Championship side [excepting Krul, Janmaat, Sissoko and Perez.] Lee Charnley and Graham Carr need to stop playing Football Manager.

Why is it unfair on Satka to play football? He is a footballer. He's not an accountant or a butcher. He has to play sometime and against better players as well. As far as we know it could be the making of him. Remember Krul and Palermo. I would also play him in his proper position and not full back. Give him a reasonable chance of succeeding and not hinder his chances by playing him out of position. Even if he gets roasted then if he is decent he could learn from the experience. If his confidence is ruined by being outplayed in a few games then does he have the toughness to actually succeed at this level. People thrown in the deep end do sometimes swim. If I were Satka I would be dying to play.

We are in for a proper hiding at the weekend. I can't quite believe that I am reading this article and it says that not only do we have ONE fit senior CB but that CB is Mike Williamson! WTF is going on!

Exactly - I would much rather see enthusiastic youngsters play than players that we know either can't hack it or don't seem interested. It's getting very boring watching us concede a sloppy goal after 20mins and then capitulate 3 or 4-0. It's got to the stage where when we go 1-0 down I switch to another game. At least some of the younger players might not have this defeatist mentality which seems to be instilled in a number of our current first team squad.

I don't doubt he might do badly, ok or good. However I am very much from the Juergen klopp school of introducing youngsters to the first team I.e. When the team is doing well rather than an act of desperation. If satka comes in and bombs because he is out of his depth, then that might sadly stunt his progress.

But on that basis, we'd never introduce youngsters!

If's an easy - and sensible - thing to do when you are doing well and can afford the luxury of mixing things up a little to experiment and carefully introduce fresh blood. Unfortunately for us, we need to try thd kids out because we don't have any better at the moment. Desperate times!

Indeed. I did say I would start him. I am simply pointing out that the club is not being run very well when this is the case. A startling revelation I know, but I have an eye for spotting these things.
