Alright boys, not here to WUM actually have a serious question Was just looking through some odds on Skybet and noticed Joey Barton is 4/1 to join you in January! Would you really like him at your club?
I'd take the twat just to see what his Yorkshire accent is like Great player who would boss this level again, baggage to one side of course. Will we even go for him? Doubt it. Will he upset the apple cart? Maybe.
Very much doubt it, seems happy with life in Marseille, level on points at the top of the French league with a game in hand on PSG, almost certain Champions League football to look forward to, playing in front of a packed stadium and some of the noisiest and most passionate fans around, and great weather. So no. Apart from that he's on around £70k pw wages
Not a chance would be my initial reaction but then we did sign Diouf. I think Diouf was a needs must at the time when we signed him and he has proved to be good so far. Warnock wouldn't possibly sign someone even more hot headed would he, not with cash in his pocket to spend on players? On an ability level I would take him, he would stand out in this division that is for sure, problem is would it be his ability or baggage that would stand out the most...
I seem to remember Barton slagging off Warnock after he was sacked at QPR, in fact if I remember rightly he didn't hold back in the slightest. I doubt the two have spoken since and I wouldn't imagine Warnock would put himself through that all over again.
No disrespect intended, but Barton sees himself as God's gift to football. He's playing in a team joint top of Ligue 1, and which is in the Europa League. He's not going to jack that in to play for a mid-table team in the Championship.
Wages wages wages. We have no chance of signing him, even with the injection of funds that's coming our way.
Exactly. Wouldn't do much for dressing room morale someone coming on three times more than the next highest earner.
I think you're being very polite LiE. One thing's for sure, if Barton came in on for example 25k per week wages plus, you can guarantee that Ross, Diouf, Becchio & others would want something approaching parity. Would take the club back to where we were at the end of the "living the Dream" nightmare. The likes of White, Lees, Byram, Poleon etc are all products of our academy. Imagine if we had to repeat past mistakes over Lennon, Milner etc and were forced to sell them to help keep the club afloat. All that so we could land Joey Barton. I think not!!!
