James Husband's loan with looks like being extended beyond the initial one month short-term contract from 28th August. The Boro boss, Aitor Karanka, has hinted that he would like Husband to stay beyond that point to gain matchday experience.

"Karanka has tended to give squad players a run-out in Capital One Cup ties but, ahead of Tuesday’s home third round tie against Wolves, he says he already has cover for George Friend in the shape of Fernando Amorebieta. Asked if he had plans to bring Husband back in the near future, Karanka said: “I don’t know. It depends if we have injuries or if he is not happy there so. If everything goes in the same way I don’t think we are going to change a lot of things."

“With Fernando we have cover for that position so I prefer for James to be playing at Fulham than to stay here and play just one game per month. So, for his development, it’s best to play.”

Good news I think. Let's hope we're on top of this, although much will depend on where Luke Garbutt is with his recovery; they can't both play, obviously, and not sure where that leaves any agreement we might have with their parent clubs.

As mentioned, his loan contract expires tomorrow. In this respect at least, moving the Wolves game to Tuesday night is unfortunate.

Meanwhile Luke Garbutt is apparently going to get game time for the U21s against Derby on Monday and Kay Voser, who had covered at LB before Husband joined, had 15 minutes against QPR on Friday. One man doesn't make a team as the cliche goes. However, the balance to the team, strength in defence and attacking threat that Husband offered in the QPR game was obvious and his inclusion in the side against Wolves could be massive.

It may be that Kit was being prudent in bringing on Voser, just in case he's needed on Tuesday, but surely the Club will move to extend Husband's loan - Boro are quite content it seems.

We just have to find away of signing Husband permantley he is young, quality and would appear to be happy at our club!!! I know the argument is Boro don't want to sell but we need to keep trying, give extra incentives, a further million if we get promoted etc, etc somebody at the club needs to earn there bonus and just make it happen.

Ps this is no slant on Garbutt I know he is highly rated and may even be a bit better than Husband but there is zero chance of us signing him permantly but you get the feeling there is 50/50'chance of us signing Husband and getting a permant quality left back
