After yesterday's venture into the transfer market, I am wondering whether NW would consider taking a punt on James Beattie as he has been let go by Glasgow Rangers. As he is technically a free agent, it wouldn't affect any transfer regulations and now we have two wingers in SWP and possibly Puncheon he could be an ideal target man. Rob Hulse hasn't really cut the mustard here so maybe Beattie could be an alternative. Thoughts
He has had his day, even at 75% of his best he would have walked into the Glasgow team. We need to aim higher.
What will be interesting is to see who else becomes a free agent on Friday when the 25 man squads are released. I'm sure there will be some options to pick up a striker.
To be classed as a free agent I think they have to be released during the transfer window, not after it closes.
My aunt Mable is an better alternative to Hulse but I don't expect NW to be signing her up. There is a good point underlying this though: in terms of out-and-out strikers the next stop below Bothroyd and Cambell is Helguson and Agyemang (the former rumoured to be going back to Watford). Something in-between would be nice! I guess Mackie will be considered should problems occur but I don't really see him as an a pure front man and anyway it's yet to be seen what shape he will return in.
Needs a run in any team to get his confidence up (like most forwards) but always tries hard and gets stuck in. Also, BBC say he got released before the deadline so is available. A good shout if his wages aren't unreasonable for a back up player.
It's not rubbish at all. 6/7 years ago he looked a great player but he's just been released by a piss poor Glasgow Rangers team and did nothing at Blackpool last season. He's 33 now and is simply not of a sufficient standard, fit or not, to do what we'd need him to do. It would be a waste of a wage.
