Is anyone else excited about him. He is fast and a clinical finisher and probably going to be better than his brother. I would like to see him playing a bit this season or going out on loan.

18 goals for the u18s last year, very impressive. We had a great batch of youngsters come through this season.

I won't get too excited about our promising youngsters as Arsenal will bloody nick them off us.

David McGoldrick once got 35 goals in a reserve season.

In youth football, that's not as impressive as it sounds. He does look like a potentially very decent player though, who could really improve with some time, experience and work in the gym. Many of the youth defenders he plays against aren't that good and he has a knack of picking the gaps. His technique is great, but his composure needs work. All part and parcel of the development process and this surely won't be the last we'll hear of him.

Good run to the far post to score the equaliser. Think they move players around so they learn more skills and experience more situations. Also helps them understand other players' roles and where they should be.

good idea, but it does mean that people on here (me included) will add 2 and 2 and come up with 9.

Haha I can't help it sometimes!

Probably! I just know it was 35 for reserves.

Hope he makes the first team (gonna be VERY tough though, and in all likelihood he wont), for the simple reason that I have always liked players called Sinclair.

I do actually agree with you on this, regularly people put way too much hope in youth players and often they don't break into the first team and fade into non-league players. The only two we have currently that I actually think, rather than hope, will make the first team are Shaw and Ward-Prowse.

It's a shocking statistic about how many academy players drop out of football entirely. I think I once heard an academy director saying that if 1 in 10 players made a first team appearance and 3 in 10 had a career in football then you were doing exceptionally well. I think Saints have just about done that over the last 10 years.

If it was not for our dutch cost cutting exercise half of our academy players in the last 10 years would not have seen any or very little 1st team action. Whilst they were out of there depth for us that exposure has given them the chance to form lower league careers where normally they would have never been picked up.
Whilst I felt sorry for the Coventry players I do think some of them have got an opportunity many don't.

Just about? I've lost count as to how many players have broke into our team over the past 10 years, never mind how many others have had a career, and very successful careers at that. And that's discounting the Dutch experiment saintlyhero was on about.

It's why we teach them life skills and they do A Levels or equivalent while they're with us. Only a very small percentage of kids who want to be footballers actually make it. My mind boggles when teams like Chelsea shell out 7 figures for a young kid who has never played senior football.
