From what we have seen todate, I agree, I thought the idea was to spend that sort of money on a player to improve your team, I haven't seen any improvement. I know the keeper situation has divided opinions, and no-one is blaming Marshall for our recent poor run of results, (well apart from a few around our stand on Sat'day), at the end of the day we should win and lose as a team, not as individuals (well, that's what I have been trying to convince my son for the last 10 years, he's a goalkeeper and has had some right pastings!)

Marshall has not met my expectations, I haven't seen any improvement in the team, only the team spirit and never say die attitude disappear. Likewise, we probably haven't met his expectations, he surely cannot have expected to come in and be part of these drubbings. He must be coming "punch drunk" and perhaps it may wiser to give him a rest and restore the Yak, see what that does for team spirit and morale?

I've not read the full thread so someone may have already posted this but Jakupovic shouldn't have been dropped straightaway to make way
for Marshall. Marshall should have been made to wait until Jak's form dipped (which seeing him play over the last few seasons would have been inevitable)

The manager now has an unhappy keeper and he can't use the reason for him not getting a game as one of form.

I don't think Jak is unhappy purely because Fulham are looking at him. He'll play against Bristol City and we see from there.

I dont know if he's a good keeper or not, but you cant make a judgement on one appearance. Loads of people have had terrible debuts and gone on to be good. Christiano Ronaldo was the laughing stock of the country for the first 3 months after signing for Man Utd, at which point he learned to stop doing 16 step overs before being tackled and got on with being brilliant.

As I went on to say, he's also looked poor in our U21s and clearly in training as well. It's a moot argument. There were plenty of half-decent keepers we could have bought at a fraction of the price as back up to Jak while McGregor recovered. Wasn't it you arguing that Jak should get the chance to be a proper Number 2 and step into the void of our injured Number 1?

He isn't. At all. He's played one game, if you base your opinion of a players ability on one single game, then it's worth practically bugger all. Just saying he's useless doesn't make it so.

Yeah I did, but what's the got to do with it? I think The Jak should be our number 1 no matter who is fit and available from our current keepers. I'm not supporting the signing of Kuciak, saying it was money well spent or saying he should be playing. I'm saying you cant judge him on one first team game.

I remember Ian Ashbee having a shocker and getting sent off on his debut. I remember Damian Delaney having a mare. And Ben Burgess.

But we werent talking about The Jak and whether we agree about that is completely moot. The part I questioned was judging a player on one first team appearance.

Where did I judge him on one appearance? Perhaps read all my posts judging Kuciak instead of cherry-picking. I've done pretty well to stay above your usual narrative for the last few weeks, let's not break a good streak. :)

He seems to have gone quiet anyway. Probably checking to see if a dingo is eating his baby.

He leapt ridiculously for a ball that was heading wide of the goal, and which should have been easily catchable, yet palmed it gently to the middle of the area. It was about the worst thing he could possibly have done in that situation. It's exactly the kind of thing he's done time and time again in what is still only a relatively small number of games for us which is why he's our third choice. We bought Kuciak when we had barely any January budget and now we've signed Marshall when we already had three keepers. Clearly neither Bruce nor Phelan fancy him and the reason for that is equally clear.

All this talk of the keeper being responsible for abstract concepts like team morale is just daft. You want your goalie to make saves and be as error-proof as possible. If Jakupovic makes everyone feel happy but then assists the opposition's opening goal, I'll take a regular shot-stopper thanks.

Except he does make saves, he did well in all the games he played in (especially Man U at home). The Arsenal goal you posted was as much to do with the outfield players than it was him, if you're going to try and place blame. The ball comes out to an UNMARKED Arsenal player about 6 yards out. Somebody gets a half arsed body part to it but that's it. Granted, the palm away wasn't great but I was right in front of that goal and from that angle it looked like it was heading in. You can watch back most saves and say "oh he could've done that better", but to be honest, goalkeeping is about split second reactions and he had to make a decision there and then. From his starting position he couldn't have caught that, not on the stretch (he's not THAT good). How many times this season have goals come about because we can't clear out lines properly? That's not down to the keeper, that's the defence.

He didn't do anything to warrant being dropped and the bloke we've brought in seems to be rather against diving for saves - at least 2 of the Bournemouth goals he didn't move for.

Are you just going to keep posting the same one effort and ignore all the great saves he made?

It's what people did for two years after he made the Sheff Wednesday gaff, ignoring the three consecutive clean sheets he kept prior to that.

Its not even a real cock-up. The ball either deflects off the defender (is it Robertson?), or looks like it will deflect off him, at pace, with swerve, which he has to adjust to, and he stops it going into the goal. You'll see 5 worse errors from Premier League keepers every single weekend of the season.
