The latest name we're being linked with, plays for Utrecht in the Dutch League and scored a hat-trick in a Europa League qualifier this week...
That's more like it. Never heard of him, but presumably McLaren has, I'd much rather take a risk on a relative unknown than this 'proven winner/good sort' stuff. Plus Utrecht is a lovely town.
Thanks. Might as well give it a go. I'm guessing there's not so much competition for his signature, hopefully anyway!
Phew, thankfully its the fail, hes 29 and not had much of a career so its hopefully agent talk. A young player we havent heard of could be a good thing, a 29yo we havent heard of will not be a good thing.
you would think so but there is meant to be 6 clubs after him and one is Nottingham forest can't they find their own targets
Good shout. Some other players I had never heard of before they joined us: Masson Wegerle Ferdinand (L) etc etc I had, however, heard of J. Barton, S. Wright Phillips, Karl Henry.

Do you want another Troy Hewitt. Another unknown that we take a chance on and wait and see if he develops while AJ and Zamora increase the injury list. To imply that this lad is too old at 29 is just ridiculous. We need a player who can score goals to get us promoted. They usually cost money and usually are a bit older and have experience.
We'll probably wait until the end of the January transfer window to sign him as then he'll only be two weeks away from turning 30.
Hewitt probably cost us 100k, Zamora AJ Barton SWP all cost us multi millions for very little return.
Hewitt probably cost us 100k, Zamora AJ Barton SWP all cost us multi millions for very little return.[/QUOTE] We have bought very very badly. Nothing to do with age. Everything to do with attitude. We just bought the big name. We bought the players reputation without doing any background checks to see if the players actually still had any personal pride/enthuasism/energy/self motivation left. Too many of the players we bought just don't give a buck. But please don't continue to make the mistake of thinking that every player over 30 is a spent force. Look at Nelsen for example. He was a driven man and had great leadership skills. You'll soon see that Richard Dunne is pure class and will bust himself for us. There are plenty of players in their late twenties and early thirties with plenty to offer. I have always said that a team needs a balance of youth and experience. I agree that we do have too many older players but that is highlighted by too many players at our club who don't give a ****e. Any player over 30 with the right attitude (eg Parker Dunne etc etc) will do for me provided we let a few of our existing older players with poor attitudes go.
