For making Twitter posts about betting on Arsenal games :(

    http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/3985106/Wilshere-probe-on-Arsenal-bet.html

"ARSENAL star Jack Wilshere is set to face a probe after appearing to boast about betting on his team — against strict rules.

The 19-year-old landed in hot water after suggesting he had placed a wager on a team-mate in a Champions League match.

Wilshere said on Twitter that fellow midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong was "worth a cheeky £10" to open the scoring at odds of 150/1 in Tuesday night's clash with Greek side Olympiakos.

The young England ace was not involved in the match himself as he is out with an ankle injury.

And during the game, when Frimpong hit the goal's side netting with the score at 0-0, he tweeted: "Frimmy nearly won me some money there!"

Now Wilshere could face a probe from European football's governing body UEFA, which was looking into the matter last night.

All players are banned from betting on games involving their own sides, even if they are not taking part themselves.

Wilshere has a million Twitter followers and there were fears he may have encouraged them to bet and damaged soccer's integrity.

The storm blew up before the match when Wilshere tweeted: "Champions league tonight come on the Arsenal! @Frimpong26AFC 1st goal is 150-1... worth a cheeky £10 right?"

Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny then replied to £50,000-a-week Wilshere that a bet would be a waste of money — joking that there was more chance of stand-in goalie Lukasz Fabianski scoring than Frimpong.

Tough-tackling Ghanaian Frimpong, 19, then chipped in saying back to the pair: "Cheers Guys U can put a tenner on a tackle? whats the odds:)" At the 150/1 odds Wilshere had tweeted, Frimpong scoring first would have returned £1,500.

In fact bookies offered around 25/1 on him bagging the opening goal — and it was Olympiakos frontman Rafik Djebbour who scored first in his side's 3-1 win.

Yesterday both of Wilshere's references to betting were deleted from his Twitter profile.

And later he insisted he had been only joking, tweeting: "I didn't actually bet on the game. I know we're not allowed to! I was only messing #justtobeclear" A source close to Jack said: "It was a wind-up for Frimpong. Anyone who would put even a penny on him would be quite mad. He hardly ever scores."

Betting on games is in breach of disciplinary regulations set by UEFA, which is in charge of Champions League fixtures.

A spokesman said: "All persons bound by UEFA's rules must refrain from any behaviour that could damage the integrity of matches and competitions.

"A breach of these principles is committed by anyone who participates directly or indirectly in betting or who has a financial interest in such activities."

An FA spokesman said it had no power on the matter because the match was under UEFA jurisdiction. But he stressed betting on domestic games was forbidden.

A player found guilty of breaching betting rules could face a hefty fine and even a ban."

I hope common sense will prevail. But if any action is really needed, then Arsenal can ban Jack for the next 3 games. OK, make it 5.

There are far more important things that UEFA should be looking into right now, i.e. the Dinamo Zagreb fiasco.

Just say it was a joke. How the hell can they prove otherwise? Also technically he could even say his mate put the bet and his mate was going to give him some of the money if Frimpong scored because his mate is great like that.

Either he was betting against a mate with made up odds, or he didn't really bet, as it says there he said odds of 150/1 but the real odds were about 25/1
and the amount of piss taking and strange banter the arsenal lads have i wouldnt put it past

generally there will be differences between bookies but for someone to offer 150 quid per pound, and others around 25 per pound

Either that or he's at one dodgy bookies!

You can understand why the rule is there, but it's an obvious piss take by Wilshere.

If UEFA want to press the issue, Then it's clear that Wilshere saying it's 'worth a cheeky £10 right?' - he asking someone else the question and by no way implying that he was going to make the bet himself.

he won't be in trouble for that one. it'll be the "Frimmy nearly won me some money there!" which directly implies that he has bet on the game. good chance he'll be sanctioned for it in some way.
