I know what you mean and it was definitely good that they did get rid but in my eyes it simply just looked like they took over from him and continued to be responsible for the deaths of so many innocent civilians.

Saddam was killed more than 5 years ago so what have they been doing there since then?

And the death and the torture has been continued up to this day, The people of Iraq should of removed him and not outsiders.

There were no WMD's there in the first place, there was a massive WMD documentation which was made up just so the US could have a reason to go to war with Iraq.

You can't simply leave a country immediately after overthrowing their regime and expect them to sort their own **** out now that you're through meddling. Once you've made the commitment to invade and overthrow, if you leave too hastily then you're basically turning the country over to terrorists or whoever owns the most dangerous weapons.
Just want to reiterate that I'm no supporter of everything with regards to the Iraq war, but certainly something has been achieved, and the biggest disgrace is that it wasn't acheived decades ago to spare the lives of a huge sum of people who suffered under Hussein.

Many tried, many were killed. I don't particularly find it all that useful or ethical to just leave a country to sort out its own crap when human rights are being spectacularly thrown out of the window by its tyrannical leader.

  7. The American troop's only reason to be there should have been to protect the innocent people there from the Taliban. The militia abuses and tortures it's own people, that needs to be stopped.

The biggest loser. Great Britain. Lies got us into Iraq and left with our tails between our legs. Blair should feel ashamed.

Agreed but meddle or not , the death total would have been similar as both the American invasion and the Saddam regime were responsible for a great amount of human loss. They should have felt they weren't welcome and just left.

They weren't there to find WMD , they were there for the oil which to me is the biggest insult to the whole conflict.

Not sure how a statement like this can have any foundation at all, I see what you're getting at but it's just plucked out of thin air. Imagine if the Hussein regime was still in power over the Iraqi people today and continued to do so for decades more, unchallenged from outsiders and continuing to supress all challenges from within. Getting rid of Hussein was very, very necessary for the people and their future. Whether or not the US succeed in establishing a working government remains to be seen obviously - it could all go horribly wrong and care must be taken to be sure it does not. The alternative is to leave a murderous villain in charge of people he gratuitously mistreats and let the death and suffering statistics continue to roll in for generations.

Difficult to say there were no WMDs. There may not have been any found, it may be because he used all of them gassing thousands of Iraqi kurds to death. It maybe more accurate to say Iraq ran out of WMDs.

I just find it ironic that the US sold arms to Iraq and the Taliban, and then were shocked to find that they were being used <doh>. Not that us British have a leg to stand on after the whole Libya situation.

If Blair had a conscience he would feel ashamed, alas he hasn't got one and rubbing shoulders with GWB probably earned him a bent penny or two.

How the **** did we leave with our tail between our legs? Basra and the surrounding area went from one of the worst areas of Iraq to one of the least violent and more peaceful areas when we were there. The British model of winning hearts and minds was later adopted by the Americans which led to the withdrawal of troops.

I believe, in the long run. Removing Saddam can only be seen as a good thing. I think given enough time, he could have possibly made these 'weapons of mass destruction'.

Sadly however, the whole Iraq fiasco is far from over. The general elections that are being held sometime in the near future will no doubt cause mass terrorism and corruption. As the saying goes, I think its going to get a whole lot worse, before it gets better.

Its a such a shame though, because after trolling the internet for hours on end, and also seeing the Top Gear special. Iraq looks like such a beautiful country, with some much history, and culture to uncover. I'd love to go there and see what it has to offer.

I also think America pulling out now, may be down to Iran. If things continue to escalate in Iran, I can't see the Americans sitting back for very long.

Of course the advantage for America is that Iran also has plenty of oil.

This would be so right if the Americans there actually did something to stop it from happening. But what did they correct? Were lives saved? They wiped out one person but since then research has showed that 150,000 Iraqi civilians have been killed since the invasion. 4500 US soldiers died as well.

Americans never went there for WMD , they went there for oil and in every war the Americans have been involved in , they've only done it because it's in their interest.

Vietnam/Korea war (containment politics - stopping communism from spreading) , Iraq/Afghanistan wars (getting rid of the taliban which they created in the first place and even aided them with weapons) + Libya war for this : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRi95MZSWsw

Anyway , I've got to study for my literature exam tomorrow.

We'll agree to partially disagree <ok>
