BBC bosses rule QPR manager Neil Warnock's 'fairies' comment after Cardiff City game unacceptable BBC bosses have ruled a comment by QPR manager Neil Warnock during a Match Of The Day interview that his team played like âfairiesâ was unacceptable. The club chief made the remark during an interview following a 2-2 draw against Cardiff City in April. It led to a viewer claiming the comment was âa homophobic stereotypeâ and should not have been screened. The BBCâs editorial complaints unit agreed the remark was unwelcome but said it would not take any further action because programme-makers had already âexpressed regretâ. Warnock made the comment during the April 23 edition of Match Of The Day Live, saying: âWe defended like fairies in the first half but the first two goals could have come straight out of the Premier League.â In its ruling, the complaints unit (ECU) said: âThe remark was unacceptable, and it was a matter of regret that it had gone unnoticed by the programme-makers, and therefore without comment or apology, at the time. âHowever, the programme-makers had already acknowledged the unacceptability of the remark and expressed regret that it had not been dealt with appropriately.â It added: âIn the view of the ECU, this was sufficient to resolve the matter.â A BBC spokeswoman said: âThis was a live interview of which we had no editorial control. âThe BBC acknowledge the unacceptability of the remark and apologise that it had not been dealt with appropriately on air at the time.â iReader http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/w...9709122/?campaign=Wales_email_newspm:20111102
Does this mean that Swords can't say the we are away with the f***ies anymore? Come to think of it, where is he these days; some of these threads lately were made for him.....
So is it offensive because of the use of the word Fairies? If NW said they defended like Homosexuals would that have been ok?
I recon a team of homosexuals would defend better than a team of 6 inch tall winged creatures of legend, magical powers not withstanding....
this country has gone nuts!!! can see West Ham being fined next if someone complains that they keep on shouting "Come on you irons"!
I checked out the link to Wales Online after suspecting this is a Spoof. One of the other articles was 'The 50 sexiest women in Wales'. That confirmed it for me.
