I know he's not popular on here, but I think he's grasped what being a national manager is about - it's about bringing a squad together and creating unity out of players who don't play together. More so than a club manager who has a squad that train together every day for years.

****. This is like the Takeover - I want it, but I am convinced it’s headed for heartbreak. I think Italy are playing beautifully, it’s a shame that Spinnazola isn’t playing, but I saw a team tonight that was a single gear and an instinctive skill that’s just above England - an England that’s better than any I’ve seen since ‘86/‘90. I won’t moan about a loss to this Italy team (IF it’s England playing them). I think they are deserving champions of Europe. And we will sign Chiesa if I’m wrong about the Takeover.

I wasnt overly keen on Southgate’s pragmatic approach and first couple of games I didn’t see anything to warrant us winning. But we have got better last two games and it’s amazing how much of a difference maguire makes. I think we will win tonight but then a final can be anyone’s. Rather be playing Italy as we will have more of the ball than if we had played Spain.
