the way the PFC supporters have turned on their players and are vilifying them. The vile vitriol directed at the players on various message boards just has to be seen to be believed. The same players who not long ago were being hailed as heroes at Wembley and cheered on the seafront at Southsea and St Mary's. It would seem that the fans have as much morality and integrity as those who managed their club and got them into this mess. Their owners failed to pay debts and spent money they didn't have. Now the fans are saying that the club should behave in the same way towards the players to whom it has contractual obligations by saying they should expect not to be paid what is owed to them. The survival of PFC seems to an issue of such importance to them that they have lost their morality, their sense of fair play and above all their decency. I make no apologies for saying that it really has become a rotten little club and does not deserve to survive. The decent Pompey fans must be holding their heads in shame and despair at what they are witnessing.
The players have no chance of getting their money back...so if I was them I would make a clean break and move on. Surely it would be better to find another team on a free transfer. They obviously hope some super-rich buyer will come in and clear all the clubs debts...not going to happen.
Bit harsh. It's certainly not the fan's fault what's happened to their "rotten little club." Some of the players, however, are at least partially culpable, and those who are expecting to be paid premiership wages by a bankrupt club languishing in League 1 need to take a look at themselves.
It would appear from all of your comments so far that you think that the behaviour of the Pompey fans is not only acceptable but commendable. That disappoints me as I always thought that Saints fans were renowned for their honesty and integrity. It would seem that many of you are prepared to accept double standards and see nothing disgraceful in the behaviour of the Pompey fans. Or perhaps some of you just haven't read some of the vile stuff they have written.
Don't think anyone has said that Godders! Personally I haven't read any of it but they are within their rights to vent their anger at the clubs plight. I'm sure we did!
Players=Pawns Fans=Pawns Owners, ex owners=crooks That pawns turn on pawns is nothing new. Feel sorry for the small time creditors who will get little of nothing for the second time.. End of.
Haven't read what Pompey fans are saying (and don't want to), but remember they are hurting and they see rich players who have earnt far more than the fans do and are not prepared to give PFC a chance to move on. A lot of little people have lost their jobs at PFC and have had to bite the bullet, so why shouldn't the players?
No I don't think that is what is being said St Godders by the posters above.......... "The vile vitriol directed at the players on various message boards just has to be seen to be believed". This is what you actually said was it not? Firstly you haven't supplied a link for people to form an opinion of their own, I certainly have not seen a description on this board of the vitriol that you describe. Secondly presumably they are talking about a few players that will not or did not agree to a reduced wage structure. Do you not think that in similar circumstances we would have fans vilifying the players that would not help the club to survive. Thirdly your statement is a generalisation, I am prepared to lay very big odds that which you describe, is not how the majority actually feel!
Yeah I can certainly see why they're unhappy. It's true that the players aren't technically doing anything wrong, they have signed a contract after all and are entitled to what the club promised them. But when the admin staff and cleaners and so on are being laid off, the players have to take some responsibility for that. Ben Haim's weekly wage, for example, would pay for one or two staff for a year! If we were in the same position we'd be furious at the players, no question.
This is even more disgusting - something I read this morning, from a Pompey forum: .................................................. ........................................ appleton_out Posted on 18/07/2012 13:18 Lol at the scummer hypocrites Report Message | Email Message To A Friend | Reply To Message That the Liebherr's were part of Hitler's Jew exterminating Nazi force isn't in doubt, although the extent of their involvement in the greatest atrocity the world has ever seen is open to speculation. Dealing solely in FACTS though, every picture of dead Marcus quite clearly shows that he was an extremely dangerous *****phile. May he and Ted Bates rot in Hell. .................................................. ........................................ posted 5 days ago, yet the sites admin allow it to remain on there still?
To be fair, I think it's mostly just frustration on the fan's part with regards to this whole situation. I don't know what's being said on Twitter (I rarely get involved in anything football related on Twitter) but obviously despite being frustrated there is a limit. Some fans may have made completely unacceptable comments on both Twitter, the News website and message boards which of course I do not condone or think justified. I think it's not too terrible to call a player a greedy bastard on a private message board like this but abusing them over Twitter is unacceptable (unless it's Joey Barton.... ). Also I think a lack of facts is partly to blame for the amount of hatred, mixed messages coming from our administrator who seems to be stoking the flames and so on. Personally, I'd love it if we could pay off all our players in full, but alas that won't happen and I'd rather the players got all their owed that than that dick Chanrai. Kanu has gone about it in a bit of a stupid manner however.
If it helps - after 5 days it has finally been closed and deleted following contact from Hampshire Police.
guys, the moron who posted that is no more represntative of Pompey fans than some of the idiots who post windups on their boards are of the majority of saints fans. There is a real issue with all kinds of internet forums and social media which makes some individuals ignore the boundaries of humanity and post filth. We should ignore their rantings and converse with those who can behave with decency, and luckliy most people on Not606 are decent human beings, albeit some deludedly follow the blue side of hampshire! ;-)
It's not exactly the whole fanbase who spews this "vile vitriol", more an extremely vocal minority. The fans on the whole have every reason to be upset.
Personally, I feel this is an issue which belongs to Portsmouth FC and the Pompey fans themselves. What they do or don't do among themselves is entirely upto them. If it is directed at us then it becomes a matter of concerned opinion, but in this case, it isn't. End of, as far as I'm concerned. Besides, I remember we were going to leave the subject of Pompey alone.
