Is there something to do with having Rangers in the team name that renders the club a basket-case? Things have been bad enough for us this season but spare a thought for the fans of the Scottish Rangers who really are really getting the thin end of the wedge.

Mike Ashley who has for years shown total contempt for one of the best bunch of supporters in the country at Newcastle is slowly crawling into the ailing Scottish giants buying up shares and issuing 'loans' that are in his rather than Rangers best interests.

After installing his man as Chief Executive it now appears he is calling the shots on team selection with five Newcastle loanees guaranteed a place in the team when fit. I imagine the SFA may want to look into it but, knowing Ashley, he'll get away with it. The current 'manager' is working his 12 months notice and is meekly accepting the situation but you really wonder how long it will be before Ashley takes over. I'll bet the Toon fans can't wait for the day...

I read somewhere that the 5 loanees were all put in place half hour before the transfer window shut in Scotland which was 12 midnight........

There but for the grace of God etc.....

Surely he wants success for both clubs as success enhances his investment. Not sure I understand the fans who give various chairmen aggravation when they are pumping money into clubs. I'd rather have Ashley than Flávio & Bernie who after we were promoted scuppered much of our season (and arguably some long time thereafter) by immediately stymying spending. Sad, but I think certain Newcastle fans dislike Ashely as much due to his Buckinghamshire birthplace, as they do his actions.

There's the rub, success to him is a Top Ten finish and sod the cups. We'd be happy with that compared to what we have now but a team like Toon could do so much better. If Pardew had been allowed to improve the team that finished 5th two years ago they could have challenged the top four, instead the best players were sold and the replacements weren't up to it.

At Rangers Ashley has already got a shirt deal tying them to Sports Direct which doesn't give them anywhere near the profit as if sold by the club, Ashley will suck everything he can out of them to his benefit and if they finish 2nd to Celtic every year he'll be happy with his profit. The bottom line is he's a businessman not a fan...
