Reports out today are that Arsenal will up their bid for Jags to 15m.

Is he the CB that Arsenal have been in need of? Is he better than Cahill, than Samba?

From within the Premiership, would he be your preferred choice? His ability as a CB is fantastic, and he will only be coming to be 1st choice, but is he the answer?

  2. Depends as much on how they gel together at the back. What also concerns me is the lack of aerial presence in the team. Is Arsene trading off ability on the ground against being able to defend in the air?

I suppose that while Jagielka remains the press favourite for Arsene to sign, who it is who eventually appears in an Arsenal shirt remains to be seen.

If only the fab four from years back didn't grow old!!!!!

Which current Everton defender was signed from Sheffield United and has played some games as a goalkeeper?

Then yes, Jagielka is the answer x

We need height at the back. He'd be an improvement on Squillaci but we'd still suffer when teams like Stoke play two massive target men and target our 6'0 defenders with long balls and aerial threats from set pieces.

Ship out Squillaci, make Djourou 2nd choice and have a pairing of Jagielka and Vermaelen...

    <ok> I'd go with that.

Djourou and TV are more than capable in the air against the likes of Stoke. Jags would give us the skill on the deck that we need against Chelsea and Utd

He's also built like a marathon runner. Skinny as a rake.

I also think we need more height in the team but Jagielka would at least give us a little more physicality. He's more powerful than our current centrebacks.

On the Everton Site it says he weighs 87 kgs. Which is pretty decent for a player that 5'11.

Did he not pick a very serious knee injury? Because of that he is not as fast he used to be. When we played Everton, Nasri skinned him for fun. So his lack of pace could be a worry if he plays for us.

But that doesn't matter, surely height is better than anything else? ;)
and djourou is 6 4 90+ KG, so same height and maybe a kilo less than Samba!

if u hadn't noticed, i believe arsenal had the 4th or 5th best defence last season. hardly terrible is it. because samba (blackburn), cahill (bolton) or anyone else hardly had a better defence than us. i believe that the only improvement that we could get who is in the PL is kompany, who is apparently angry at man city (along with richards and de jong) about other players getting ridiculous amounts of money whereas they (who were very good last season) are getting peanuts in comparison

  16. I think Kos is fine and with a year in the EPL under his belt, should be better for us next year. A little sharper on the decision making front would see him pretty handy at the back.

Having been fed daily drips from NewsNow I'm quite out of ideas as to who would benefit us. The lack of aerial presence still worries me as much as the indecisiveness of our defence when under siege. Our defence needs to be organised. That is a definite must come mid August. That apart I'll see what Arsene has in store for us. Wish he'd hurry up though.

TBH I don't think our defenders are that poor. Had they been better organised we may not have dropped those points that we did and may well have taken the EPL last year. It's that little piece or two of magic that is missing.

Now i would prefer some height but he's still better than what we have.

    He's combative and hardworking.

Ask an Everton fan if he would swap Jagielka for Koscielney, Djourou or Squillaci.

Also he has a better injury record then Djourou, Gibbs or Vermaelen.

Swap Nasri for Kompany + cash?

    You can always dream..

  19. Nasri is pretty unlikely to stay beyond summer 2012 so we should sell him now to whoever offers the biggest pot of gold. Arsene's flawed thinking floors me at times.

Exactly. I can see the point about not wanting to strengthen our rivals but when he leaves for free at the end of next season he's going to be joining one of them anyway. Better to sell for £20m than to let him leave for free.
