It used to be quite common for even the most liberal old ladies round here to respond to a whine of 'it's not fair' with 'a ******s arse never was, but you don't hear them complaining'.
Yep, my mum also uses the term for that meaning. And no, she doesn't mean that all blacks are stupid or daft.

A lot of language is generational and evolves. The language our parents and grandparents used is not acceptable to many today but the majority who used it never meant any harm by it. I think about language and it's all about context, your best mate may throw a hot wet teabag on your chair just as you were sitting down and you may call him a **** or twat then laugh, on the other hand your boss may give you a bollocking or doc your wages and although you may use the same two words the meanings are totally different and said in a way that everyone knows.
