It's very early to say whether or not Alan Pardew is as good, better or even worse than Chris Hughton in terms of managing the team. Initial signs would indicate that he's almost definitely as good.

However, one string to Chris Hughton's bow was his ability to attract players to the club such as Ben Arfa, Tiote, Gosling e.t.c.

I believe that this was down to his general personality and the feel-good factor he had instated at the time. Whilst much of that feel good factor still remains today, I cannot help but pose the question; Is Alan Pardew as capable of acquiring new players as Chris Hughton was?

    Your thoughts?

I think the players he has enquired about have been very "obvious choices" and there will have been a lot of competition for their signatures (often at least one is more appealing to the player).

SWP, Keane, Becks, Bentley, Ireland, Larsson all will have had several suitors, some willing to pay more and some London based, appealing to English players in particular.

It was never really made clear how much Hughton had to do with transfers in honesty. Graham Carr seems very good at his job and I guess its down to MA and DL more than the manager about emulating the appeal of our club. No doubt CH and AP will have an influence, but how much I don't really know

no it wasnt down the chris to attract players, i bet they didnt even meet chris until it was a done deal, most transfers were done upstairs becuase fat mike didnt trust him, apart for once but then chris sighned james pearch so you know what happened there. alan pardew is a expierenced manager, a smart guy, and a good man manager. pardew will be given control of the transfers becuase i think mike will trust him.
i sont think its a matter of better or worse but a matter of expierence, alan pardew knows how to set up a team to win, draw or be solid lie against spurs. hughton was very attack and hope colo will pick up the pieces. i think pardew is a nd will do a great job at newcastle and i hope he can bring in ireland and someone else. cheers

Hughton asked, MA & DL looked. If they agreed it would happen.

That's how I think it went, Pardew has recently said on Sky Sports he is positive that we will sign players. Let's wait and see.<ok>

Even the cripple are handicapabale now...

Pardew will be judged in time but at present I don't see him having much to do with the players and transfers at the moment because he's not had enough time to run the rule over them yet.

The summer will see movement in and out of the squad as he'll have had time to evaluate everyone and see if they fit in with his plans for the future progression of the squad and club.

    Only time will tell.

Whether we suffer the inevitable second season syndrome and how the team as a group handle it.

However I think we'll be fine. I know I should have learnt, but, on paper we have a cracking squad!

The only reason I ask such a question is because CH managed to have a fairly significant influence. Many of the players that we signed have said that Chris' running of the club was very attractive to them and almost a deciding factor. Ben Arfa even voiced his frustration at the sacking of Hughton because he was the person who had influenced his decision to join.

Perhaps Pardew is going after more proven players and is therefore facing more competition. Hughton had very little money to work with but could get away with offering players such as Tiote a lower wage. Maybe all of the players that AP is enquiring about are demanding too much in terms of wages, that at least seemed to be the case with Sebastian Larsson.

I take it that you're a Peterborian too? I was once a Peterborough United season ticket holder, it's hard to imagine why now! I bailed before our inevitable decline in the Championship ;)
