Another of our talented youngsters, Jon Buatu, gets a full call up for his country - please log in to view this image âMananga Jonathan Buatu has been called up to represent the Angolan national team in a friendly match against Ethiopia on Sunday 3rd August. The powerful centre-back had previously represented Belgium from Under-17 to Under-19 level, but the 20-year-old will now turn out for the African nation. Buatu made 15 appearances for Kit Symons' Under-21 side last season, scoring once.â
Taye Ashby-Hammond is in goal for England U17 in their opening game this evening v Iceland in the Nordic Tournament.
England won 5-1. The Icelandic goal came 10 minutes from the end, so Taye didn't quite manage a clean sheet.
Pat Roberts has been selected for England U19s to play Germany. please log in to view this image Link to FA article: http://www.thefa.com/news/england/d...erhausen-izzy-brown-patrick-roberts-joe-gomez
I saw the FA tweet the selected players for their U18s team. Didn't see Pat in the list and thought it was a bit harsh, didn't realise he'd completely bypassed the U18s and skipped to U19s. Well done Pat. Also well done to George Williams who's been called up by Chris Coleman for the full Welsh team for their Euro qualifier against Andorra. He'll be in direct competition with Gareth Bale for that left wing spot. Wow. Sean Kavanagh's cameos for the first team haven't gone unnoticed either, he's been given his first international call up (at any level) as he's selected in Ireland's U21 squad to face Germany in the UEFA U21 Championships Qualification.
Cauley Woodrow has kept his place in the England U21 squad to face Lithuania and Moldova. He is in very good company in that squad though, with the likes of Saido Berahino, Harry Kane & Danny Ings also in the squad so he'll have his work cut out to get his place in the team.
And well done to Emerson Hyndman getting a call up to the USA senior team (USMT) for next week's friendly against the Czech Republic . Source: http://www.ussoccer.com/mens-national-team/latest-roster
And, Noe Baba who has been named in the Ireland U19 squad to play the Netherlands on the 8th September.
A number of other guys have been selected for their country's full squad. Joining Emerson Hyndman at that level are: Jesse Joronen is back in the Finland squad having made his debut in January 2013. The goalkeeper will be hoping to feature as his nation travel to the Faroe Islands in Group F. Montenegro begin their Group G campaign with a home match against Moldova, with utility man Elsad Zverotić named in their squad. Out-on-loan Kostas Mitroglou is in the Greece party for their home clash with Romania on Sunday. On Tuesday the 9th Bulgarian defender Nikolay Bodurov travels to Azerbaijan in the first Group H match. In friendly action, Fernando Amorebieta is in the Venezuela squad for their matches against South Korea and Japan on Friday and Tuesday, respectively. And at U21 level in the European qualifiers, joining Cauley Woodrow and Sean Kavanagh are: Denmark currently top Group Two but are yet to confirm their progression with two matches still to play. Lasse Vigen Christensen has been named in the squad for the upcoming fixtures against second place Russia – where a win would guarantee top spot – and Bulgaria. Kostas Stafylidis is in the Greece squad that still has a decent chance of qualifying from Group Seven. They currently sit in second place – two points ahead of Sweden and three behind Poland, the two sides they are set to face over the next week Group Nine remains a difficult one to call, with Serbia, Belgium and Italy all in contention to finish first. Marcello Trotta could feature for the Azzurri in their matches against the Serbs and Cyprus. Elsewhere in the group, Liam Donnelly is in the Northern Ireland squad as they look to end their disappointing campaign (bottom place is all but a certainty) with a positive showing against Serbia on Tuesday. And at U19 level, joining Pat Roberts and Noe Baba are: Under-19 level, Moussa Dembélé is in the French squad for their meetings with Serbia and Ukraine, while Marek Rodák could feature in Slovakia’s friendlies against Georgia and Italy.
Hyndman just came off the bench after 69 minutes, to make his international debut. Congratulations Emerson!
I actually watched this game. LVC was very impressive. His first goal was a 20 yard pearler, the second was a right place right time tap in from 2 yards. He seemed to be the heartbeat of the team though, the 'go-to-guy' in midfield.
I feel LVC was a little harshly treated against Millwall - he may be a little behind Hyndman at this point, but I think he has the ability to be around the fringes of the first team this year. Especially with our current dearth of midfielders.
Having seen him with the U21s there's no doubt he's a very cultured player. Although he hasn't exactly shown a flair for goals with us in the past, he does seem to get them for his country. Don't know what happened in the Millwall game but to be honest he just didn't show up and of course was subbed at half time. I sincerely hope Felix doesn't cold shoulder him on that performance alone.
Disappointing that Jack Grimmer hasn't been included in Scotland's U21 side v Slovakia tonight or Cameron Burgess in that or their U19 squad.
This explains one of the omissions - Australia has won the battle against Scotland for Cameron Burgess. "The 18-year-old was born in Scotland and has represented them in the youth ranks for the past year, but will now be tied down to Australia. Burgess was given a clearance this week by FIFA to officially switch allegiances. The defender has started four out of five games for Fulham so far in this season's Championship. Before joining Fulham in 2011, the youngster was an ECU Joondalup junior and Perth Glory youth player having moved to Western Australia from Scotland with his family at the age of 11. Football Federation Australia confirmed the capture of Burgess on Saturday. âCameron Burgess is a talented young footballer making positive moves in his football career and weâre delighted he has confirmed his desire to play for Australia,ââ an FFA spokesperson told the Herald Sun. âHe is a young player we have been watching and we will continue to do so knowing he is committed to the Socceroos.ââ Despite playing for Scotland, Burgess was also called up for a Young Socceroos camp earlier this year. Following his impressive performances at club level, the youngster may be a shout for Ange Postecoglou's Socceroos in the not too distant future." Wonder if they'll give him a run out against Saudi Arabia at the Cottage tomorrow night?
I'm a great believer that players shouldn't be criticised for choosing one country over another when the choice is based on what they feel themselves to be, which seems to be the case here. That said, long term, I'd have rather had him playing for Scotland than Australia if he stays with us, just in terms of the amount of travel and fatigue he'll endure when playing for his country. Oh well. Well done Cameron, in any case.
A round up from the Club on those playing at the weekend, including Mitroglou who surprisingly (well not really) played the full 90 for Greece - "Kostas Stafylidis played 90 minutes as Greece’s hopes of qualifying for the 2015 European Under-21 Championship took a hit on Friday. They fell to a 3-0 defeat by Sweden in Halmstad, with Manchester City striker John Guidetti – currently on loan at Celtic – opening the scoring from a free-kick seven minutes into the second half. Greece saw more of the ball as they looked to create a response, but they were left disappointed as a brace from Isaac Thelin put the result beyond doubt. Stafylidis and co can still qualify from Group Seven but must beat Turkey on Tuesday. To finish top they also need the Swedes to draw with current leaders Poland. For the full national side, out-on-loan Kostas Mitroglou played the full game as Greece’s Euro 2016 qualifying campaign ended in a 1-0 defeat by Romania, courtesy of Ciprian Marica’s penalty. Moussa Dembélé twice played 90 minutes as France Under-19s lost their opening two games of a mini-tournament in Serbia. After suffering a 2-0 defeat against the host nation, Les Bleus were then beaten 2-1 by Ukraine, although Fulham striker Dembélé was the man to grab the consolation goal."
