I don't think VaR can interfere in that offside call as an England player touched it afterwards so it wasn't in the same phase of play

Disgusting dive ruins US qualifier. Zimmerman decides to go down like he's been shot after a very slight off the ball push and the VAR officials decide it's time for the US to rip off Panama one more time.

Mexico vs Costa Rica became a shootout for automatic qualification vs the playoffs

And then there's the last round of CONMEBOL fixtures, which is going to be a total moshpit for the playoff spot

It has to be said Argentina specifically have really taken the piss over the years. Frequently took a half-fit Lamela and almost always a half-fit Lo Celso. IIRC they once played Foyth when he was carrying a sprain and it delayed his recovery. Now this latest nonsense with Romero.

Maybe it's because we've simply had so many Argentinian internationals in recent years it's just more noticeable but my instinct is this has more to do with the Falklands.

I don’t know about that. It’s probably more of a player thing. The South Americans, particularly Brazil and Argentina it seems, are passionate about playing for their countries in a way we rarely see in Europe. If there’s the slightest chance they’ll get to play then they really want it, even if they’re carrying a knock.

As for Romero, I doubt flying to Argentina (likely on a private jet or similar) and training a bit will have affected him too badly. I know travel takes it out of players but that’s more when they have to land, train immediately, play the next day then fly back after the game. I’d rather he hadn’t gone but I’m not too worried about it as he’ll have had plenty of recovery time. Though it is annoying that his FA called him up knowing he would only play one game at best, and at that, a game that IIRC doesn’t even matter because they’re already qualified.

They are annoying but I doubt it’s to do with that

I was joking about the Falklands.

It wasn't one of my better ones, granted.

Scored both goals in a 2-1 win over Congo on his debut as a right-back.
To make things even weirder, his opening goal was the first of the match and it was a penalty.
Why is a defender taking their penalties on his debut? <laugh>

Apparently he was a CM in the game, which explains his positioning for the second

Why did the crowd boo when they announced Harry Maguire’s name in the starting line up?

He’s not done anything wrong in an England shirt.

Crowd booing Maguire is precisely why I'm not bothered when our players are not picked to play for England, the crowd at England home games are so tribal too the point of being toxic for the players , I went to an England game a couple of years ago and the coke being openly snorted would have knocked out a Happy Mondays after show party
