I know it is from Sky Sports, but there are some interesting quotes from Pardew.

    http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_6777096,00.html

    He says
"I think Mike's made it clear that the financial model that he's put in here is one where he doesn't have to go to his personal world to fund it,"

Does this mean that the club has to support itself from now on, or is he talking about Ashley's 5 year plan? To confuse the issue further he goes on,

"So it's a two-fold situation here, and I'm leaning on his passion for the team to get more money out of him and use as much money as I can."

"The short of it is that we will be signing players in the summer, for sure."

I thought that we had made massive losses over the last couple of years, and although the club managed to reduce a lot of it's expenditure last year, I did not think that we would be making a profit this year even with the Premiership money. Obviously the £30 million that we received up front for Carroll will help but will this be sucked up into the general running of the club? How much will actually be available for transfers?

Another quote that got me thinking is
"While he is here, he wants to make it viable. We're going to use that money to build the club and have a team on the pitch."

I assume that from this, Ashley is still looking for a way out of the club. I still think that he will try to get the club trading like any other viable business and then try to sell it on. This is not necessarily a bad thing.

The final quote that I would like to highlight is regarding the new contract for Tiote

"To be fair to Mike he's gone and said 'let's get this guy done,' because after Andy he wanted to make sure that he sent a message to the fans that he is here, he is keeping his eye firmly on the club and he wants to build the club. And this is a big step towards that."

Whilst this in itself is great news. what does it say about the Joey Barton situation?
My feelings are that with HBA and Gosling coming back, and the possible signing of Ireland, the club may feel that now is the time to cash in on Joey.

Am I reading too much into Pardew's comments?

Apologies to Mighty Magpies - Pride of the North East, I've just realised that you posted something similar already.

I'm just enjoying the news about Tiote and Carver.

No doubt MA will do something to screw thing's up in the future.

Sorry, I just can't help it. Whenever something goes right at the club I'm always waiting for the kick-in-the-balls that normally follows under Ashley's ownership.

note to self....................just enjoy the good moments and stop worrying about what might or might not happen.

Agree, we know there is a strong chance of a kick in the balls later, so let's all bask in this ambience for the moment.

To me, it sounds like Tiote isn't a guy who cares much about the money. He gave up CL football and came over here on quite probably a low wage, and he appears to have signed a long-term deal without any hesitation. I presume he has been offered a fair amount due to his performances, but there hasn't been one peep out of him.

You can really tell that he's still in awe over the passion of the fans. It's what he mentions the most.

I can understand your scepticism and in my darker moments I share your concerns. For the moment though i'm just gonna enjoy the moment and think postitive thoughts along the lines of new long term deals for Barton and Enrique as well and a clutch of good new signings in the summer.

The thing about disappointment is it will come up and bite you on the ass whether you worry about it or not so why not enjoy the time you have until you feel the teeth going in.
