It was much much much easier for Cortese to turn down a £5m bid from Fulham for Lallana last summer than it would be to turn down a stupid offer from Liverpool (also when the player himself didn't want to go to Fulham, but does want to go to Liverpool)
Yep, he's flying round the world with a massive suitcase full of cash from recent transfers, because that's how selling a business works of course.
It will make a nice change from being just a boring ****. Will you make an appearance at a Saints game to bask in your glory?
Would you like me to announce when I'm attending games from now on, so you can perhaps buy me a beer, give me a hug, introduce me to your family?
Leighton Baines is the most obvious recent example where a club definitely refused to sell to larger club. There may be others or there may not. We don't know everything that happens at Southampton, never mind other clubs. We do know that no other club has sold this many first team players in one summer. The intangible in all this is whether Cortese still being here would have stopped the players wanting to leave. Personally I think Shaw would have gone anyway, probably Lambert too. The rest I'm not so sure about.
Possibly, but Moyes might have come to an agreement with Everton that he would only buy one player from them, either Fellaini or Baines. They rejected a "joint bid" for both of them, with the lower valuation put on Baines.
That sounds a bit like concocting something purely to suit your narrative though C-Beebies (though that's fair enough, we all do it). And in the spirit of that, I realise Everton are a bigger club, but are you telling me the CL clubs wouldn't want Baines/Coleman/Barkley/Stones? Because they would, but they're not going in for them as I suspect they realise they'll get short-shrift, and neither are they themselves agitating to move. It's not a 'gimme' that what's happening to us has to happen just because other clubs are bigger.
Even if you discount Everton, last summer Swansea had Vorm, Davies, Williams and Michu who were linked with moves away and managed to hang on to them all. Obviously they've gone this summer but the club dropped back a bit this season so that's more understandable.
Keith Weller - He came to us from Chelsea, who picked him up from Millwall, who had picked him up from Spurs after his apprenticeship (remember them!!). He left us for a couple of clubs in the USA in the late 70's. Many of us rate him as the greatest player to ever don a Leicester shirt, unplayable on his day.
An update from Molina http://www.hat-trick.fr/eclaircissements-a-propos-de-southampton-et-schneiderlin/
Molina, who is very close to Schneiderlin is claiming that Morgan was promised a move this summer if a big offer came, having agreed to stay last summer.
I was thinking that. Seems he promised a few players they could leave this summer. He jumped ship in January... cue the conspiracies.
Exactly. Molina's just trying to justify his friend's overreaction. New board = new rules, Morgan has to realise that he signed a four-year contract to play for Southampton FC not Cortese. The new board don't owe Morgan anything.
