    Can someone tell me how those green spots under our names change? Yesterday there was only two there, now there's a full bar. My rep number has gone up, my points have shot up and my level has shot up too. Could someone explain please.:huh:

    Your number goes up by one every time you suck somebody off. Clearly you've been a busy boy.

    Down at the bottom of every post on left hand side there's a Sheriff's badge symbol (not a rusty one Erik). By clicking on that you can mark someone's post up or down. The more a person has their posts marked up the more green spots they get, and if they have them marked down a lot they end up with red ones instead (see that Palace fan that was posting the other day). The reason your scale shot up from a couple of them to a full bar is that you got marked up by a "big hitter" (for this forum anyway). The site doesn't just look at how many mark ups/downs you get, it looks at who's giving them as well, and that's based on the rep of the person.

    When you mark a person's post up or down you give them points equal to your rep power (or take them away if you mark them down), so at the moment if you marked mine you'd give me 95 points, and if I marked yours I'd give you about 14,000 points, and Erik can give/take 448 points. All the points you've been given this way are added together and then divided by 100 to calculate your rep power, so you've got about 9,500 points this way. Prior to yesterday you only had about 1,000 (I think when I looked you'd received 8,500ish yesterday) so your rep power had been 10 and shot up because of the big hitter giving you rep.

    Your points shot up because your rep points shot up. Your points total is your rep points plus the points you earn for other things like making posts so obviously being given loads of rep points shifts your normal total pretty quickly. Your level is determined by how many points you have, the more points you have the higher the level.

    Obviously it's open to manipulation, because if I boosted your score, and you boosted mine, and we kept going like that we'd be able to build up ridiculous totals really quickly (notice the totals for me and ISTPLT). On some forums people actually seem to care about these things (to the point where you get points for star rating threads so they go on different sections and rate every thread 5 stars), so there are threads where people do just that. Because some of them then decide to go round neg repping for the sake of it people end up with red cards instead of green ones myself and ISTPLT have built our reps up to a reasonable level (there's people with well over 10 times what we have elsewhere on the site) because as we don't really use the rep system on here it lets us "correct" any unnecessary neg repping. Its not something that's really necessary, but ISTPLT had been on the end of a load of neg repping when we made him a mod, and the admin/supermod questioned it on the basis of that.

    Thanks Rich, I didn't have a clue what they indicated. I only noticed them because of the green bar appearing. Thanks again mate.

    In order to type that lengthy explanation, it looks like Richardo doesn't get out much :)

    Blue - shows your accumulated points and what level you are on (even though stated below the bars)
    Orange - the % of the level completed and how many points are needed to go to next level;
    Green - how active you are on the board

    If you click on the Control Panel, at the top right of the screen, you can check the last 5 people who has given your "Rep Power" a boost.

    You now know why I seldom comment on players, tactics or formations, when I can't even tell my left from my right. <laugh>

    Correct, although last night that was more to do with the 7am train I had to catch this morning. (Spent the night doing the washing and making sure I had everything I needed)
